BROOKLYN, N.Y.âPerformer, musician and club culture personality Queenie Sateen was profiled in The New York Post after it was announced that the adult star has been crowned Mermaid Queen of the 43rd annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade, which takes place on Saturday, June 21. According to the Post, the Bedford-Stuyvesant resident is the first adult actress to lead the parade, which sees costumed revelers stroll Coney Islandâs legendary boardwalk and is considered the local unofficial start to summer. Other Mermaid Queens have included Queen Latifah, socialite Carol Razdiwill, and the children of former New York mayor Bill de Blasio. âIâm honored to be the first. Obviously, itâs so important to have representation of sex workers. I know that porn stars are the most public of that, but Iâm proud to be able to represent the pornstar/sex worker girly community in such an iconic and storied New York institution,â Sateen told the Post in an extensive interview, which referred to her as simply âQueenie.â âBut I also think itâs really cool that Iâm the first at this time now where a lot of our rights are coming under attack. Especially towards the adult community, itâs become such a target of like freedom of expression and speech. So many states now are cracking down on porn,â Sateen continued. The Post also named Sateen as an AVN Award winner for âBest Orgyââmore precisely, she received a 2025 AVN Award for Best Foursome/Orgy in Brazzersâ â20 for 20,â and also shared in this yearâs Best Music award for the original songs in Dorcelâs feature Alive. The profile pointed out that, prior to starting her adult career in 2022, Sateen was a well-known figure in New Yorkâs club kid scene. As Queenie, the artist will debut the single âDownfallingâ on YouTube on June 27. âItâs a drum and bass track with lots of fun harmonies and stuff about being a porn star. Itâs about getting weird DMs and wanting to push men down stairs,â she told the Post. Coney Island USA Artistic Director Adam Rinn told the Post that Sateen has long been well-known in NYCâs underground scene and her selection as Mermaid Queen affirmed the eventâs inclusivity. âAt the end of the day, being sex worker positiveâwe as an organization, we have no problem with that. We have absolutely no regrets. Weâre very excited about it,â Rinn said. Eugene Hütz, frontman of the Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello, has been named the paradeâs King Neptune and will appear alongside Sateen.
