Christian Dior Wins Trademark Battle With Performer Gigi Dior |
|
WASHINGTONâFashion house Christian Dior won a victory in an ongoing legal dispute over trademark registration with star Gigi Dior, who applied to register her stage name as a word mark. A word mark is a type of trademark IP granted to protect a word or phrase itself. These types of trademarks are brand names or slogans. The Fashion Law reports that Dior beat out the performer after years of litigation. Counsel representing Diorâs parent company filed an opposition notice to Gigi Diorâs word mark claim, and that legal proceedings have played out at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Officeâs Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) The word mark âGIGI DIORâ was blocked by a TTAB finding, which affirmed that Dior would have harmed the fashion houseâs branding. Conglomerate LVMH owns the luxury brandâs DIOR mark. It was decided "that the public would associate the term with [Gigi Dior] even when it encounters the term apart from [Dior's] goods.â Gigi Dior declined to comment citing the ongoing litigation related to this case. Since her industry debut, Dior has appeared in dozens of adult scenes. She is also an independent content creator for platforms like OnlyFans and is represented by Nexxxt Level Talent Agency.
