âRock the Voteâ PSA, Comedian Sarah Silverman Target Sex Workers |
LOS ANGELESâIndustry advocacy coalition Erotic Professionals & Allies United (EPA United)Â announced a partnership with non-profit organization Rock the Vote. On October 1, EPA United posted a public service announcement video aimed at sex workers, produced by Rock the Vote and featuring comedian Sarah Silverman, as part of a non-partisan voter mobilization effort. Silverman speaks in support of voter participation for sex industry professionals in the upcoming national election on November 4. Addressing the sex worker community directly, she said, âIâm here to tell you, your vote matters because you matter and your work matters and your life matters, and more than anything, your happiness matters. And voting is respecting that, respecting your happiness.â EPA Unitedâs voter mobilization effort is supported by various industry organizations and companies including the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, Free Speech Coalition, SWOP Behind Bars, New Moon Network, Spankchain, SextPanther, and more. "This initiative is driven for and by people who make a living as erotic professionals, who are too often excluded from policy decisions that affect their lives. Weâre deeply grateful to Sarah Silverman for demonstrating her allyship to our community and are excited to rock the vote this November," said EPA United Co-Director Savannah Sly. EPA United Co-Director Carly David added, "We hope this will help unify erotic professionals with our allies by collectively exercising our civil right to be active participants in the democratic process." EPA United is a coalition of erotic professionals and businesses who support the rights and welfare its communities. It use the phrase âerotic professionalsâ to be inclusive of all people who are employed in the adult industry. The organization supports advocacy for the rights of adult professionals, including adult performers, exotic dancers, content creators, webcam models, full service escorts, phone sex operators, fetish providers, and BDSM professionals, among others, as well as adult industry consumers, community members and other allies.
