Pineapple Support to Launch ‘Coming Out’ Support Group

CHATSWORTH—Adult industry mental health nonprofit Pineapple Support will host a free, online support group for performers that explores the challenges of coming out—whether that be as LGBTQ-plus, a sex worker, or something else—both personally and professionally. The six-week “Coming Out” support group will be led by Pineapple Support therapist Amy Studer. “This safe and supportive virtual space is to discuss intricacies of 'coming out' in personal and professional spheres,” Studer said. “From establishing trust and understanding challenges to developing effective communication strategies, each week delves into key aspects of disclosure. Engage in insightful discussions, effective problem solving, and practical homework assignments to empower your journey towards authenticity.” Pineapple Support was founded by performer Leya Tanit in 2018, after a string of losses in the adult industry from depression and other mental illnesses. The organization, a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization in the United States, has connected over 14,000 adult performers to mental health services, including free and low-cost therapy, counseling, and emotional support. “Coming out can be a daunting process, especially when it intersects with your professional life,” Tanit said. “Pineapple Support is dedicated to creating spaces where performers can connect and receive the guidance they need to embrace their true selves. We are incredibly grateful to be able to offer this kind of vital support.” The six-week “Coming Out” support group begins on Tuesday, October 8, at 9 a.m. PT, 12 p.m. ET. The online sessions will last for approximately one hour each, on Tuesdays, through November 12.
