Podcasting 101 â Part 3 |
Last time, we discussed equipment, sound quality, and production of your podcast. Let’s address acoustics. I try to make the acoustics of my office as good as possible, to make the sound quality good, and to keep the sounds from bouncing off the walls. You can certainly go full throttle and cover the walls with sound baffles all over your podcasting room, but I found a nice solution. I purchased 3 cheap tripods, covered particle boards with sound baffles, such as these, and attached the particle boards to the tripods. I surround myself with them during an interview or a podcast and put one of these in front of the microphone. Another element I like to add to my podcast site is a transcription of each podcast. That way, it helps with SEO. I am using an app on my Mac called AI Transcription. It works well. At the outset, I purchased some theme music for our intro and outro. The company I used was Audio Jungle. It was an inexpensive way to come up with my theme music. There are other providers you can find with similar services. I also had to get a cover image made. Your designer can put this together. This is essential because you’ll need a podcast host, and they require a cover image. There are many podcast hosts. I use Soundcloud. I’d love to tell you they’re wonderful, but I haven’t yet found one I wanted to change to. But hosting is essential, because you’re assigned an RSS feed and that RSS feed will be picked up by all the major podcasting providers. The top ones are Apple, Google, Spotify, and TuneIn. There are many others as well. I suggest having your own podcast website. Ours is AdultSiteBrokerTalk.com, if you’d like to look. That is also in the process of a remake. Some podcasters rely on their podcast hosting company for this, but that’s not wise. If you change hosts, it can create all kinds of issues. I like to retain control over this. Of course, if you already have a website, you can house your podcast on your site or use a subdomain of that site instead. But either way, have your own website. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on it, there are plugins available as well. One in WordPress is Seriously Simple Podcasting. We launched a new site for Adult Site Broker Talk about 6 months ago and we’re very excited about it. Like I said at the outset, we always try to continue to up our game and you should too. Promoting your podcast is also important. We do a press release to all the major adult media weekly to promote the guest who’s on our podcast. Of course, this also helps to promote our company to a great degree. We also post the guest’s information on all major social media channels, post a video of the audio podcast on YouTube and XBIZ.tv, and post snippets of the podcast on X, Instagram, and YouTube. Next time we’ll discuss how to get guests for your podcast and how to format your interviews. If anyone reading these articles has any questions about podcasting, I’d be more than happy to help.
