Nebraska Poised to Adopt Mandatory Age Verification Proposal |
LINCOLN, Neb.âNebraska is poised to be the next state in the union to implement mandatory age verification requirements for pornographic websites. According to a press release, the unicameral Nebraska Legislature has advanced LB 1092. Sen. Dave Murman secured a final vote Thursday in the unicameral of 35-3 to adopt the measure, which would attempt to prohibit adult sites from operating in Nebraska's digital space without "reasonable" age verification methods. Nine of the more liberal members of the unicameral simply voted "present." Now that the bill is before the governor, he is expected to sign it into law. The bill's passage through the unicameral is part of a blitz to pass legislation as the Nebraska legislative session comes to an end. AVN reported on the bill's recent revival after it stalled in the legislative calendar, but was revived late in the session. LB 1092 introduced digital identification language. "Digitized identification card means a data file that contains all of the data elements visible on the face and back of a government-issued operator's license or identification card and displays the current status of the license or card," reads the bill language.
