An Interview with Lady Bellatrix – Paris, Whips, and Horror

Lady Bellatrix is a fascinating woman who has lived a variety of lives in different professions around the world before embracing her true calling as a Dominatrix.

Her last gig before becoming the internationally recognized British Mistress she is today was as a freelance journalist penning a weekly column for The Metro. That’s nothing to sneeze at by the way – this online news site has a circulation of 3.3 million across the UK – obviously she can write and was good at her vanilla job.

But it soon became apparent that being a Dominatrix was what she was REALLY good at. Not only that she enjoyed it and could make more money cracking the whip than sitting at her typewriter. So, she said goodbye to her last mainstream profession and never looked back – proving when you follow your heart, success is yours.

Enjoy this chat with Lady Bellatrix where she talks more about her amazing career as the highest-profile international Dominatrix in Paris.

How does one discover that they should have a career as a Dominatrix?

When I was a little girl growing up, I actually wanted to be an astronaut! So, when young women are at the age that they start choosing their vocation, I don’t think becoming a Dominatrix is at the top of the list. I think it’s generally something that happens by osmosis, obviously for those who are naturally drawn to kink.

Back in the day, I got my first taste of the industry by working as a phone sex operator at a busy call center in Vancouver. For some reason, I always got the submissives calling me, and I found I was a true natural at dominating them. I met some colorful people there which led me down the path of occasionally sessioning as a Dominatrix. But then I got bored, so I moved to Osaka for three years and worked in various forms of Adult before moving to London.

Upon moving to London, I thought it was time to “settle down” and “grow up” so I worked in the corporate world as well as being a freelance journalist. But after eight years of that, I got bored again and thought something was missing in my life. I began exploring the fetish scene of London and jumped in with both feet. After six months of non-stop fetish parties, it rekindled my interest BDSM, so I decided to go pro. At the time, I was only doing it part time and thought I’d only last a few years.

What was the moment you knew “yeah this is my calling?”

I came to a crossroads in my life after about two years in. In the beginning, I didn’t show my face in photos. However, there was a conflict-of-interest brewing between my vanilla life and working as a professional Domme in London.

At the time, I had a daily column in The Metro and there was my face and real name for all to see. People from the fetish world were starting to recognize me from the newspaper. It was also a time where I was starting to get busier as a Domme so I knew that if I “took the mask off” it would be a lot better for business. It was a tough call to make because I worked so hard to get to the position I was at in my vanilla life. But being a Dominatrix paid much better. Like, so much better.

So, I quit the newspaper and went full force into the BDSM world. I have never looked back, nor do I regret my decision.

You’ve chosen Paris as your home base – is this the place to be as a Dominatrix?

I don’t know if Paris is necessarily the place to be as a Dominatrix. But it is the place where I want to be.

As you may have guessed by now, I have an intrepid soul and get bored easily. I first started coming to Paris on tour in 2013 three or four times a year. So, when Brexit happened, I decided I wanted to live in Europe while I still could. I already had a solid client base here, so Paris was the obvious choice. And in 2018, I made it my home.

When you think of the kinkiest places in Europe, France probably doesn’t come to mind at first.

However, I always thought of Paris as an emerging market, and it had a lot of potential. Post-pandemic, there is definitely a lot more interest in the kink and fetish world. And I’m pleased to say that I was asked to be the ambassador for the first ever Paris Fetish Week this past October!

What are you most proud of in your work?

I suppose I am most proud of my staying power, my longevity and my unswerving work ethic.

I just celebrated my thirteenth “Dommeaversary” recently. I never would have thought I’d still be in the game this long, but here I still am! I’ve seen a lot of people come and go during my time. It is very easy to burn out in this industry, and I get that. But I have no intentions of “hanging up my whip” any time soon.

Plus, I really love what I do! When I decided to go full time into this industry in 2012, part of that was being an independent video producer. With nearly 1500 videos in the bag, I hope my creativity and passion are reflected in my body of work. This is my legacy.

If you weren’t a Dominatrix what would you be?

The beautiful thing about being a Dominatrix is that there is no real retirement age. Maybe in some areas of the adult industry, there is a “shelf life” or as I mentioned earlier, people get burnt out and call it a day. But at the rate I’m going, I will be doing this for a very long time to come.

However, on a recent vacation to the south of France, as I was sitting on the beach reading a Stephen King book and relaxing, I had an epiphany. Maybe after a decade or so when I start slowing down, maybe I will turn my hand to writing horror novels. With my journalistic background and flare for storytelling, I think it is something I would really enjoy. Hell knows I could probably draw on my years of experience of getting paid the big bucks to torture men for a living!

Goals?

I’m planning on opening my own dungeon in Paris in 2024. There’s a lot of work to do to get to that position and I have a few boring administrative things to do to set my business up. But once that’s in place in a few months, I can finally start my epic project.
