Pineapple Support Launches Group to Help Those With Addiction |
LOS ANGELESâPineapple Support, the adult industryâs leading mental health nonprofit, will host a free, online support group with a focus on those suffering from addiction, exploring alternative methods to tolerate stressors and self-soothe. The six-week support group, âFreedom from Addictionâ will be led by Pineapple Support therapist Charlie Nicely and will begin at 6.30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, October 17th. "This group will take a Buddhist approach to recovery by using mindful awareness in recognizing habitual patterns of behavior and making new, more supportive choices," says Nicely. "We'll also be working together to increase self-soothing and distress tolerance, without engaging in potentially addictive behaviours." Pineapple Support was founded by British performer Leya Tanit in 2018, after a string of losses in the adult industry from depression and other mental illnesses. The organization, a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization in the United States, has connected more than 12,000 adult performers to mental health services, including free and low-cost therapy, counseling, and emotional support. "This group is a processes group thatâs grounded in the potential for each group member to recover and find freedom from the suffering of addiction," says Tanit. "Each group will include a brief meditation, a reading, and an open-sharing portion over the course of 6 weeks. Taking this path together, we will work towards finding and respecting our own individual journeys." The six-week âFreedom from Addictionâ support group begins on Tuesday. Sessions will last for around one hour and will take place online each Tuesday at the same time until November 21st.
