Marica Hase Featured in Netflix's 'Risque Business: Taiwan'

LOS ANGELES—Adult star and YouTube creator Marica Hase is featured in Netflix Korea’s Risque Business: Taiwan, premiering today. The series is a follow-up to Risque Business: Japan.  “The first season of this show is not only popular in Japan but also here in the US, and featured colleagues from back home,” said Hase. “A lot of my non-industry friends here have also watched the show, so it was already familiar to me when the producers reached out. I’m so glad the timing worked out with being at the Taiwan Adult Expo, and thrilled a program like this showcases the work we do to entertain our fans!” Risque Business: Japan, hosted by comedian Shin Dong-youp and singer Sung Si-kyung, is presented in a semi-documentary talk show format, as the pair “dive into the world of adult entertainment in Japan, meeting people from all walks of life to demystify the taboo experience.” The show delves into adult videos and AV production to sex toys, host clubs, and VR porn, and provides a look into the cultural aspects of dating, sex, relationships, and adult entertainment in Japan. The show’s first season was a hit globally but met with controversy in Korea, where porn production is illegal. "We thought about not touching the topic of adult videos (AV). But considering the size of the AV industry in Japan, it didn't feel right to avoid that topic," show co-producer Jung Hyo-min said during an interview with The Korea Times. "Making AVs is illegal in Korea but we wanted to see 'how they make them' in the countries where it's legal. It's not about what's right or wrong. But we wanted to make a show that lets us think about where we stand. I've realized how different people's views on sex are. Before the show's release, I thought the response would be divided by gender or generation. But I've learned that it's about how open- or closed-minded you are towards the matter."  Co-producer Kim In-sik added that the show's second season, filmed in Taiwan, will provide a more solid understanding of the show's purpose. "I don't believe that there was too much criticism on the show,” he said. “When you finish the whole show (including the Taiwan part), you will be able to understand the point of our series.” In Risque Business: Taiwan, the hosts follow and interview Hase along with co-performer and UrbanX Hall of Famer Chris Cock during their appearance in April at the Taiwan Adult Expo. “I was so happy to be able to take advantage of my ‘international porn star’ status and share my global experience working in the industry, to discuss the differences between porn production in Europe, Australia, Japan, and the US on the show,” said Hase. “The behind-the-scenes insider information I share are things only someone who’s worked in the industry in these various countries, with its different cultures and approaches to sex and entertainment, would know. Fans can definitely look forward to a peek at how I am when I’m not on a studio set, and I also think my industry colleagues will also have fun learning a little about how things are done in other parts of the world. I can’t wait to hear what you think!” To view Risque Business: Taiwan, click here.  To catch up with the show’s first season, Risque Business: Japan, click here.
