This Week on Adult Site Broker Talk, Part 2 of Chat with Alison Boden

In Part One of the interview, Friedman and Boden largely discussed the start of Boden’s career in the adult industry, which reaches back to her time as a student at the University of Pittsburgh, when she and a friend saw an opportunity in the city’s lack of a high-end adult shop like Good Vibrations, as other large cities have.

“How hard could it be?” Boden mused? “It was impossible, actually. And this is amazingly still an issue that small retailers face 20 years later. But you know, zoning laws in various cities, municipalities are basically like, well, you can be down by the river with the cockroaches and rats or out by the highway, but that’s it.”

The experience served as a rude introduction to the realities that Boden now helps to confront on behalf of the adult industry in her role at Free Speech Coalition. The second half of his conversation with Boden focuses on that work, Friedman said.
