BranditScan Announces Launch of Twitter “Catfish Scanner”

BranditScan initially announced the launch of its catfish scanner last summer, noting that the scanner uses brand name searches in combination with facial recognition technology to find “Instagram imposters” and take down the accounts. With the announcement this week, that same technology is now being applied to hunting down impostors on Twitter, as well.

“After launching our Instagram scanner and helping content creators remove these catfish social media accounts, there was real need for this tool over on Twitter as well to start cleaning up those harmful accounts,” a company representative said.

In an interview with YNOT last September, BranditScan CEO Gino Sciretta talked about the various problems that can be caused by social media impostors and catfishing accounts.

“Catfish accounts are problematic as they convince fans into believing they are the real thing and can even gain quite a large follower base at times,” Sciretta said. “They are known to scam money from fans and also share misleading statements and attitudes tarnishing the real creator’s image.”
