Best New International Starlet Romy Indy Talks Adult Career

LOS ANGELES — Romy Indy reveals there is something about when the camera is on that brings out another part of her personality. “The funny thing is, usually I'm quite a shy person,” Romy admits. “When I come into a room of people I'm like super silent, and I don't say anything, but when it was for the first time for a porn movie, I felt like I was at home. “It was like really strange. I came in and I didn't feel nervous at all. Not in my first scene, not in my second scene, not in my third scene, never.” She says when it's time for action, “I feel confident and happy and excited.” “So it's really strange. I think the camera gives me a confidence boost I don't have in real life,” she adds. “So when when the camera goes on, I feel better than when it's off. It’s really strange how to explain it but it just feels like I need to be there and it's alright.” Not only does Romy find comfort when the cameras roll, she’s proven she can deliver world class performances, too. It’s why the now 23-year-old Dutch performer won her first AVN Award on Jan. 22—her birthday—capturing the Best New International Starlet award during the all-digital 39th annual AVN Awards Show. To say the victory came as a surprise to Romy would be an understatement, especially since when she discovered she was nominated for the 2022 AVN Awards, she thought someone was playing a joke on her. “I couldn't believe it,” Romy recalls. “Because at first I saw it on somebody else's [Instagram] story. And I was like, ‘What? Wait, my name is there?’ I was thinking, ‘No, she's like making a joke.’ And I was like, ‘Whoa, it's really my name!’” Nominated for both Best New International Starlet and Best International Lesbian Sex Scene for the 2022 ceremony, Romy tells AVN she was surprised her work had been noticed in the U.S. “‘They know me from America, like who I am?’ I was in shock,” Romy said less than a week before the show. “And I was texting my mom, ‘Like oh my god, mom, look, they know me in USA.’ “And she was also really happy for me and very proud. And then I put it on my Instagram and social media. And people were like, ‘Whoa, that's really big, congratulations!’ I was thinking people only know me in Europe and not over there. “So yeah, I feel very honored and happy and I just couldn't believe it. I needed to check it maybe three times and see if my name really stays there.” Not only did her name stay on the nominations list, Romy accepted the Best New International Starlet award live on Zoom from her home in the Netherlands, where it was about 5:15 a.m. the next day, January 23. Wearing a red top, Romy covered her face with her hands and then smiled and said, “Thank you so much, I didn’t expect this—like I’m completely shook. … I’m so happy, I’m so grateful, thank you to BrillBabes, thank you to JulModels, thank you to all the production I worked in 2021 and wow I can’t believe I won! Thank you so much guys, I don’t know what to say, thank you AVN.” Indy, who started her porn career with KimHolland.nl when she was 20 in the summer of 2019, has more than 80 credits so far, including a starring role in One Night in Barcelona for leading French studio Marc Dorcel. The movie won 2022 AVN Best International Production. Romy also considers her role as a secret agent in One Night in Barcelona her finest moment as a performer so far. “I was there for eight or nine days and I needed to shoot a [scene] like everyday—and it was in the night,” she explains. “Because it’s called One Night in Barcelona. So I needed to switch my whole routine and wake up like at 4 in the afternoon and then shoot until maybe 4 in the morning.” Romy adds, “I think it's my biggest movie I ever made, to be honest.” She prefers scenes where she can play a character. “Because I feel like I'm in a real acting scene. When I have the script and I need to learn it I always learn it like two days in advance,” Romy explains. “And then I show up and then they always ask, ‘Who knows the lines? And I can say the lines of everyone. And they're always impressed and then I feel like, ‘Oh, I did a really good job today.’ “I like the acting part of the most and I like the traveling part the most.” She had plans to come to LA last year and book through Hussie Models but the lockdown in Europe postponed her first trip to America. “For now, it's only going to be Europe,” Romy says. “And I've been in every country like maybe 20 times already. And I've shot with so many people. So I wanted to come to USA to meet new people and to see new companies. “And I don't know, I just like to be in different environments the whole time, other than Budapest and Spain and France. And I like to see new people, new cultures.” She decided to keep her actual first name as part of her porn stage name because she didn’t want to hide her adult career from her friends or family. “I was like, ‘OK, if I'm gonna do porn, I want to do it like 200 percent and everyone can know it,” Romy says. “And if they dislike me then OK, then we just don't talk.” But no one is complaining about Romy’s decision, not after her multiple outings for MetArt, SexyHub, Marc Dorcel, Reality Kings, 21st Sextury, Private, Nubile Films, DDF Network, LetsDoeIt and Vixen Media Group’s high-end studio sites—Vixen, Tushy and Blacked. “I love like every scene, every production so far,” Romy says. “Everything I thought that was gonna happen, it happened. I've met a lot of nice people. I've been in great countries…” Romy says she her previous job was working with the elderly when she was 19 in between modeling jobs. “I was taking care of them—not like a nurse, I don't know the word in English—but like a personal guide there,” Indy explains. “So I have to take them to activities like Bingo or play games with them or read a book to them.” She also worked in restaurants and in a call center, but she didn’t stay anywhere for more than a few months. “Porn is really like the first job that I have for two-and-a-half years now I think,” Romy says, adding that she still cams once in a while. But she finds doing porn more stimulating. “And I also like shooting with other women. Webcamming is just me solo, so it's a little bit boring. I also don't like solo videos to be honest. I only like girl/girl and boy/girl and boy/girl/girl... I need to have action.” Born and raised in Amsterdam, Romy tells AVN her father is from Suriname and her mother is from the Netherlands. “So I'm like 50 percent. I think I feel more Dutch because I'm living in Amsterdam and I'm raised Dutch. I don't speak Surinamese. My dad, he is adopted by Dutch people. So like my whole family is Dutch and we are like the only Surinamese—my dad and me—so I feel more Dutch,” she says. “But of course, I'm also Surinamese because you can see it on my skin color and everywhere.” When she’s not working, Romy likes to read and play with her two Pomeranians. She loves romance novels and thrillers “and sometimes I read stories that happen in real life—like women who are traders in the sexual industry, this kind of thing.” “Also a lot of books about the second war. I don't know why, but I'm like obsessed with this,” she adds. A self-described “introvert” who doesn’t go out a lot, she is also learning how to pole dance in her free time. “I want to take this as far as I can,” Romy says. “I hope I can do this until like maybe I'm 35 or maybe even after 30s. If I still look good, maybe I can do it for a longer time. And then maybe after I hope to continue with RomyIndy.com."
