APAG to Hold Open Meeting With Congressional Candidate Alexandra Hunt |
The Adult Performance Artists Guild (APAG) has announced it is welcoming adult industry workers to an open APAG meeting with Alexandra Hunt, a candidate running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Pennsylvaniaâs third congressional district (PA-03). In its announcement, APAG described Hunt as âa public health researcher, a girls’ soccer coach, an advocate for social, racial, economic, and environmental justice and an organizer fighting for the 3rd district of Pennsylvania.â In an interview with Technic.ly in March, Hunt explained why she has spoken up publicly about her time working as a stripper when she was in college, explaining that she âdecided to be transparentâ because âI didn’t want to be in a place where anything was being used against me.â âI did it because I needed the finances. And I’m not going to be ashamed of it, and I’m hoping I get to connect with other women or male sex workers out there,â Hunt added in the interview. In its announcement, APAG said that âas more legislation is introduced that directly affects our workers, APAG recognizes how important it is to seek out leaders who support industry labor efforts and sex work decriminalization.â This isnât the first time APAG has come out in support of and interfaced with a candidate for major office. Recently, members of APAG, including President Alana Evans, spoke at a rally to support Eliza Orlins, a candidate running for District Attorney in Manhattan. Evans discussed the plight of sex workers who face discrimination, along with raising a family as a sex worker. “We are excited to provide the opportunity for our workers and introduce our community to potential leaders who will listen to our struggles and fight for us,” Evans said. Fellow APAG member, Amberly Rothfield helped organize the upcoming meeting with Hunt, after connecting with her team at the Manhattan rally. âIn the words of Melrose Micheals, we are the one industry that has the least representation in the political system,â Rothfield said. âI will always back those who want to give us more of a voice in government.â The APAG meeting with Alexandra Hunt is open to all industry workers, including non-members of APAG. The event will take place Sunday, May 16, 2021, at 5pm PST/ 8pm EST with a regularly scheduled meeting to follow. To RSVP for the meeting, click here.
