BIPOC-AIC to Host Discussion on Reproductive Justice & Immigrati |
LOS ANGELESâThe Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Adult Industry Collective (BIPOC-AIC) announced plans to host the second installment of âPolitricks,â at 6 p.m. PST today "to educate last-minute voters" before heading to the polls. Dr. Leandra Hernandez and sex work advocate Maya Morena will be on-hand to discuss the intersection of reproductive justice, immigration, and sex work. The conversation will include topics such as legal disenfranchisement of sex workers, including illegitimate searches for street-based workers, illegitimate raids on strip clubs, sexual harassment and assault. In addition, the moderators will discuss violence toward sex workers by law enforcement and fines for shooting pornography without permits in some cities. "This conversation will serve as enlightenment for and from BIPOC sex workers and some of our strongest allies to better navigate present-day politics just in time for Election Day," BIPOC said in announcing the session. Maya Morena remarked, âItâs essential that we understand why the empire needs to control and exclude (people,) based on sex through borders, policing, and laws.â Today's speakers intend to provide insights about what is happening on the floors of U.S. courtrooms, Congress and the White House, and the real-life impact of legislation related to sex work. Panelists will bridge the gap of the BIPOC sex industry communityâs understanding of the political landscape to prepare them for the upcoming election cycle. âThis topic is needed now more than ever because of how it impacts our lives so closely,â Hernandez said. âWho we vote for impacts our reproductive freedoms tremendously.â The event falls days before the BIPOC-AIC opens its November Microgrant Application period. Applicants in need of assistance in completing their online application should email [email protected] to be paired with someone who can help. BIPOC-AIC sets out to empowers adult performers, NSFW content creators, and sex workers through wellness, career development, skillshare, and mutual aid, challenging unfair working conditions that BIPOC individuals disproportionately face in the adult industry. Speakers are subject to change due to availability. Tickets for the donation-based event can be found on Eventbrite.
