Dr. Carol Queen Celebrates 30 Years at Good Vibrations |
SAN FRANCISCO â Sex-positive sexual health and wellness product retailer Good Vibrations issued a statement today marking 30 years of service to the company from Dr. Carol Queen, the companyâs staff sexologist. âThirty years after walking through the doors at Good Vibrations, Dr. Carol Queen continues to innovate and enlighten,â the company said in its statement, noting that Queen has a Bachelor’s in sociology and a Ph.D. in human sexuality and that in addition serving as staff sexologist, Queen is also the curator of Good Vibrationsâ Antique Vibrator Museum. In 2000, Queen also co-founded (along with Dr. Robert Morgan Lawrence) the Center for Sex & Culture nonprofit. When asked what has been consistent through her time at Good Vibrations, Queen said âthe mission.â âQuality products, good sex information, and SESAs (Sex Educator/Sales Associate) trained to speak to just about anyone about just about anything,â Queen said, ticking off a list of things for which the company is known. âItâs still people who believe Good Vibrations plays an important role in helping people and in making more space for sexuality, relationship configuration and gender issues.â Queen is a noted essayist whose work has appeared in a wide variety of publications. She has written four books; the essay collection Real Live Nude Girl, The Leather Daddy and the Femme, Exhibitionism for the Shy and The Sex & Pleasure Book: Good Vibrations Guide to Great Sex for Everyone. A prolific writer and contributor, her contributions can be found in several volumes of Best American Erotica as well as in many books sheâs edited or co-edited, including Best Bisexual Erotica, Sex Spoken Here, Switch Hitters and PoMoSexuals, among others. Queen also has addressed many academic and professional conferences, from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality to the Oxford Union at Oxford University in England. Queen continues to be one of the most interviewed sex educators and appears frequently on television programs. Queen is also active on behalf of progressive sex education and sexual diversity issues. âOutside of her role at Good Vibrations, she is perhaps most closely affiliated with the bisexual and sex work communities, but she also has been speaking publicly about non-mainstream sexualities, from lesbian to leather, for over 45 years,â Good Vibrations noted in its statement issued Monday. âQueenâs perspective in addressing sexual diversity incorporates personal experience, accurate sex information, and informed cultural commentary.â To read more about Dr. Carol Queen or reach out to her directly, click here. |
