APAC Proposes Sweeping Reforms to End Racism in the Industry

LOS ANGELES—The Adult Performer Advocacy Committee (APAC) is pledging to end unequal pay for black performers as well as a number of other sweeping proposed reforms as part of its effort to combat racism within the adult industry. In an open letter posted today and signed by scores adult performers, including Chanel Preston, Maddy O’Reilly, Riley Reyes, Katy Jane and Riley Nixon, the organization noted that recent events involving the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police led them to seek the reforms. “As adult film production is paused for public health, we are witnessing a large uprising against racism and deadly police brutality. We grieve along with the rest of the country for those lives lost. We have seen, time and time again, that the policing and prison systems are instruments of violence, which overwhelmingly target Black Americans,” the letter said. “Silence makes us complicit. It is time to say, as an industry, that black lives matter," it continued. "This means facing the role our films have in reinforcing racist tropes and racialized fantasies. Those stereotypes feed the same dehumanizing system of racism that allows people’s lives to be stolen by police brutality and prison." To read the entire statement, click here.
