1998 HIV Documentary 'Porndemic' Now Available On VOD |
LOS ANGELES—Freestyle Digital Media, a division of former comedian Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios, has acquired the North American rights to Porndemic, a documentary about the adult industry's first major HIV problem. Porndemic will be available to rent and own on North American digital HD internet and satellite platforms through Freestyle Digital Media on January 31, 2020. Porndemic delves deeply into the story of the 1998 HIV outbreak that tore through the L.A.-based adult film industry, as told by the people who experienced it. Using archival footage and exclusive, original interviews with many recognizable adult performers, Porndemic is a gritty yet intimate documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes of the porn industry as it confronted a deadly disease which was a threat to its very existence. Directed by Brendan ‘Spookie’ Daly, Porndemic features interviews and insights from a host of adult industry veteran performers and insiders, including Ron Jeremy, Ginger Lynn, Tricia Devereaux, Marc Wallice, Bill Margold, Sharon Mitchell, Mr. Marcus, Jim South, Mark Cromer, Mark Kernes, Michael Louis Albo, Tim Tritch, Dr. Thomas L. Horowitz, Herschel Savage, and Tom Byron. Porndemic was produced by Brendan ‘Spookie’ Daly and Evan Krauss. “I made Porndemic because I wanted to know how, in the middle of a worldwide HIV epidemic, the porn industry managed to avoid an outbreak for close to 20 years,” said filmmaker Brendan ‘Spookie’ Daly. “I didn’t expect the story to turn into a whodunit about characters that are familiar to millions of people.” “Freestyle is proud to be an integral part of the release of Porndemic,” said Freestyle Digital Media Acquisitions Director Caleb Ward. “Brendan tells a wild untold story of the gritty nature behind America’s pleasured past.” Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire Porndemic with Evan Krauss of Eisner, LLP, distribution counsel for the film.
