Mercedes Carrera, Daemon Cins Pre-Trial Pushed to Oct. 25 |
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.—At what was scheduled to be a pre-trial hearing this morning for adult performer Mercedes Carrera and partner Daemon Cins in the multiple-felony case against them, the pair's defense lawyers requested and were granted a move of said hearing to October 25, according to court minutes. Carrera and Cins were arraigned August 19 in the same courthouse—the Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino—and pleaded not guilty to the 11 counts they each face, which respectively include one for "Sexual Intercourse/Sodomy with child 10 years old or younger" and 10 for "Sexual Penetration/Oral Copulation with child 10 years old or younger." The child in question has been identified in a public statement by Carrera as her daughter. Presiding Judge Katrina West, who oversaw the arraignment hearing as well, during those proceedings set a "trial readiness" hearing for September 27, which she vacated this morning. She had also set a trial start date at the arraignment of September 30, which now reverts to being indefinite, albeit the time waiver for trial to begin was slated at this morning's hearing to extend until December 24. At the arraignment, Carrera's attorney, public defender Joshua Castro, told AVN that he would be "open" to discussing a plea deal for her, but added that due to the severity of the potential penalties she may face for the charges at hand, "these cases are very hard to settle."
