“Let’s Talk Adult” Covers New California Bill with Attorney Karen Tynan

LAS VEGAS – “Let’s Talk Adult” host Glenn King has announced a special episode of the podcast that features an interview with labor attorney Karen Tynan, who will discuss AB 5, new legislation being considered by the state of California that will force adult entertainment companies to pay performers as employees instead of as contractors, if it is passed in its current form.

“This legislation is going to have a huge impact on our industry,” King said. “I have seen some passionate arguments on Twitter from sides who are for and against this bill and have also seen a lot of tweets from confused performers who want to know more. We in the industry need more information so we can prepare. As someone who has a podcast that is listened to by a large number of industry people, I decided to find an expert and ask her to lay it out for us in simple terms.”

King noted that this edition of the podcast is “not for consumption by the general public.”

“Unlike my usual podcasts, there are no fun stories from set and no adult film stars telling us about the things that excite them – just information,” Kind said. “As a result, we decided to do this podcast commercial-free. It’s more of a Public Service Announcement than a podcast. We talked about all the legal aspects of the new legislation and then I asked my accountant to clarify some of the accounting aspects. I went back and added some of the accounting information.”

The podcast won’t be about staking out a political position on the pending legislation, Tynan emphasized.

“Although some people wanted us to take a side on this issue, we felt like the best thing we could do for the industry would be to just lay out this information in an objective manner,” Tynan said. “We kept our discussion to ‘here is what AB5 is, here is what the impact would be, and here are the pros and cons’. The listeners can make up their own minds about how to proceed.”
