On the Set: Jonni Darkko's 'Trans Glam'

Few mainstream porn studios have as much skin in the transsexual porn game as Evil Angel. The company, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is the longtime home of director Joey Silvera, who first began shooting transsexual performers back in the mid-1990s. Then came Jay Sin, whose TS Playground series has been running since 2012. Adding to the TS talent roster was Aiden Starr, debuting with Hot for Transsexuals in 2015. Aside from that, most of the Evil Angel directors worked with cisgender performers—including stylish shooter Jonni Darkko, who’s been with the studio since 2004. Earlier this year, the director made his first foray into TS erotica with Trans Glam, an all-trans-on-cis-girl title released today on EvilAngel.com, VOD and DVD. On set for the movie back in March, Darkko talked about how the project came about. The director says that he’s often been approached about shooting trans porn. “Everyone’s been asking me for years,” he admits, but he felt it was a little far afield for him. “I felt I’d developed my own niche and I would stick to it.” Also, Darkko “didn’t want to step on Joey’s toes.” But as he watched Aiden Starr find her own approach to the genre, Darkko’s interest began to grow. “Aiden was the cornerstone.” So he emailed Evil Angel Chief Creative Officer Chris Gentile about doing a TS title, and Starr happened to be in the office right then. She jumped at the opportunity to produce the movie, with Darkko directing. “I love Darkko’s porn,” Starr said. She recalls that when she first began shooting adult movies, she and her fellow performers all wanted to work with the director. “We looked up to Darkko. If Darkko has shot you, you’re a fucking porn star. And I think trans girls see his porn and they feel that way about it. They look at how stylish it is, how well it’s shot, the technical aspects of it, and they feel like it’s a milestone.” Now the two of them are working on set together. “Any time I can collaborate with someone so talented, I am down.” Starr says. They started by coming up with a list of trans girls who like working with women, or who were requesting a certain female co-star. “If girls were requesting each other, let’s make that happen,” Starr says. Starr ticked off the cast: “The first scene we shot is Angela [White] and Aubrey [Kate]. Then today’s scene. Then Chanel Santini and Joanna Angel. And Lena Kelly and Katrina Jade. We’re so excited.” For today’s scene, Darkko and Starr are both on set in a well-light space with a large white sectional couch, white walls and blond wood floors, with a rock soundtrack to keep everyone energized. Rounding out the personel is a second cameraman, Sal Genoa, and the two stars: Adriana Chechik and Natalie Mars. Visually, the two are a striking pair: all-natural bodies, perfect butts and long legs, light eyes and dark hair. Mars is a shade more pale and a little taller than Chechik, but it’s a stunning combo in front of a blue seamless. It was with Vixxen Goddess. Jay said, ‘I have something you’re gonna like.’ I said, ‘I trust you.’ Actually, that won best TS scene [at the 2016 AVN Awards]. I was the first woman she slept with.” As for her first scene other than solos, Mars says it was with Bailey Jay. “I was very early in my transition when I shot that scene, like maybe six months, and I’ve come a long way,” she says, noting that she’s chosen not to add breast implants. “I try not to just follow the crowd. Everyone feels they have to get big boobs, and this and that. It’s not for me.” Chechik points out that in addition to natural boobs, neither of them has tattoos. “I’m too afraid of them. Have you ever liked a drawing for more than five years? I haven’t.” Mars concurs: “My tastes evolve over time. I’m not going to like [a tattoo] in a few years.” Other than just their visual appearance, Chechik and Mars are a perfect combo for other reasons. Starr says gleefully, “I thought that Natalie and Adriana would be an extra special match because they’re both butt whores. These two, I had to see them. Their butts. Their personalities. I knew they would really like each other.” Chechik agrees. “I’m always creeping on her things, saying, ‘Look at that!’” She’s talking about the clips that Mars posts on her ManyVids. And creating their own content is another interest both performers share: Chechik for her own site, AdrianaChechik.com, and Mars through ManyVids. Chechik says, “The fans … want to see what you personally like. Because you tend to shoot stuff you want to shoot. You get to see not only what kind of sex a girl likes to have but what type of colors she likes. You can get her personality from the scene more. … It’s a little more intimate of a jerkoff experience.” Mars agrees that “shooting for the bigger companies sometimes gets a little formulaic. ... Starr is also jazzed about Mars’ playthings. ”I want to see her big toys under Darkko’s expert fucking lighting and lenses and expert post-production that he’s going to do to make this look like a movie you could go into a theater and watch. … And his music? Sick. A-mah-zing. The best, I think.” Commenting further on the dichotomy between canned cotent and professional shoots, Starr says, “Both sides are really valid. Fans like seeing girls in all different ways. They like seeing Darkko’s version of what the girl likes and her version at home. Porn fans seem more avid than ever. They’re really on board. They enjoy it, they enjoy the girls’ personalities. They know about directors, and what they can expect from certain directors. It seems like it’s almost risen to the level of sports hobbyism. Or like comic books.” Now that the stars have begun to bond, Darkko begins to discuss the scene. Addressing Mars, he says, “Let’s throw some ideas out that work, that are your favorites, since we’ve never shot. I need to know what makes you happy.” Mars responds, “Stuff up my butt.” Darkko asks, “Are there any positions that make you happy?” Mars likes doggie and mish, and also some that is “hard to describe.” “Show me,” the director responds. “I’m visual.” So he watches carefully as Mars positions herself. “My grandiose plan is how to keep both of you in the frame and active, because everything is about the two of you.” Darkko says. “The typical hetero scene I’d be cropping out a lot, because I’m creating fantasy. So this is the polar opposite, where I’m engaging you both. … The two of you connecting will make this so insane. The more you’re engaging and the more you’re close, the better off this will be. … “I want to take this from zero to 100 quickly,” he continues. “So I want to do an intro part where you’re connected and looking each other and looking raw and talking about what’s going to happen and we’ll take a break and then we go. Let’s define what we’re going to do, and let’s go there.” After some discussion it’s determined that Mars will be taking the toys in this scene because Chechik wasn’t booked for anal, but she’ll enjoy vag sex with Mars topping her. And then Chechik will get to play with Mars’ ass, and that suits both of them. And, of course, there will be plenty of oral all around. Darkko tells Mars that Chechik is “the craziest blow job queen on the planet. This is exciting to be able to see it and take it to a little harder level. … Putting the right people together at the right time.” Plans are already in the works for Darkko and Starr to do second trans title. “We’ve totally got it set up for number two,” Darkko jokes. “Sprinkle Sean Michaels over that shit.” Starr explains that the two want to do a movie with scenes inspired by Darkko’s regular series, this time with trans/cis male pairings. She says, “His fans are going to look at it ... ‘Oh, that’s this movie but it’s got trans girls in it.’ And the trans girls are super excited about it because they’ve seen these titles and they want to fuckin’ be in them like everybody else is.
