Mississippi Lawmaker Punches Wife for Not Undressing Fast Enough |
LUCEDALE, Miss.—Ahhhh, Republicans. The latest member of the party of “family values” to show what a fine upstanding citizen he is would be Mississippi Republican State Rep. Doug McLeod, who is currently free on a $1,000 signature bond following his arrest earlier this week on a domestic violence charge of punching his wife in he face because he believed she undressed too slowly to have sex with him. Yup, you read that right. McLeod bloodied his wife’s nose because she wasn’t getting naked fast enough for him. According to law enforcement reports, McLeod was intoxicated and holding a drink in his hand when officers arrived and he greeted them by saying, “Are you kidding me?” His wife—who had blood on her face, neck and arms—reported to officers her husband had “snapped,” saying he often did so when he’d been drinking. She said after he struck her, she fled to a friend who was in another room and locked the door. McLeod reported pounded on the door saying he would “killer her fucking dog” if she didn’t open the door. Not one to let the actions of a colleague sully their own efforts to harm women—the legislature passed a bill that essentially bans all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy—Republican leaders in the state are calling for McLeod to resign from his elected position. McLeod has made no statements about the incident or if he plans to step down. But, of course, there will probably be no real consequences if he doesn’t resign; he’s running unopposed for re-election this fall. Stay classy, Republicans.
