Uma Jolie Discusses Return to Performing |
LOS ANGELES—Uma Jolie wants 2019 to be a statement year. “I want to clean up my act,” Jolie tells AVN. “Because I’ve been flaky in the past. I was very young but now I feel like I’ve grown out of that.” The native of Burbank, Calif., who at press time in April had not shot a new sex scene in more than a year, says her most recent hiatus gave her time to reflect, motivating her to start reaching her full potential. “I know I probably have a bad reputation from the past, but this year I really want to win an award,” Jolie says. “I’m trying to really be here and I’m trying to enlighten our fans about our personalities, our lingo, how we talk. I want people to get a feel for adult film actresses and actors. I don’t want them to think, ‘Oh they’re just porn stars and it’s just sex—no. Fuck that shit.” Jolie, who turned 24 on April 8, debuted in adult in the summer of 2014, doing less than 20 scenes—all girl/girl and solos. She left the business for eight months, returning in the Fall of 2015, when she tried working with guys for the first time, doing just a handful of boy/girl scenes before switching her focus to girl/girl going into the summer of 2016. By 2017 she had momentum, kicking off that year as an Official Trophy Girl for the 34th AVN Awards Show in January, becoming Penthouse Pet of the Month in February and Vixen Angel in September of 2017. Last year she landed the cover of July issue of Hustler magazine. Jolie to date has about 110 career credits—almost 60 of which are girl/girl. “I’ve been planning to start shooting again,” she says, targeting later this month for new scenes and noting that producers such as PornPros, Nubiles and JeshbyJesh each have expressed interesting in booking her for multiple scenes. “My grandma passed away two years ago and that’s when I was grieving really bad,” Jolie explains. “So I didn’t show up to a [Greg Lansky] shoot. Now I want to clear all that up and hopefully he’ll give me a second chance. “I’m just trying to do better this year and hopefully people will see that and give me a second chance. Because a lot of people have tried to blacklist me in the industry and a lot of companies won’t work with me.” Dealing with her grandmother’s passing was a difficult time, she says. “I don’t think anybody really understood what I was going through,” says Jolie, who has her grandma’s birthdate tattooed on her. “So it was tough for me because a lot of people just dropped me. Like nobody talked to me in the industry. So it really hurt and I started spiraling down more. But now I see it for how it went down. And I regret a lot but at the same time I don’t want to regret because I know I needed that time because I was just hurting so much. So now that I’m feeling so much better I’m very positive and outgoing. Now I’m just trying to harness that energy.” The last scene Jolie shot was for Mike Adriano’s Nympho.com. Now self-booking, Jolie can be contacted at [email protected]; she’s open to doing a wider variety of boy/girl scenes—including taking on two guys. “I’m willing to go that extra mile to be a porn star finally—like hardcore shit," she adds. "Because a lot of my fans have been asking for it. I’ve been kind of waiting for it. So now I’m just ready to kill it and slay it.” Jolie, who attended Scratch DJ Academy in Miami for five months in 2017 in an effort to hone her DJ and music production skills, is also still pursuing her passion for DJ'ing and making hip-hop beats. “I have to mentally prepare myself to go travel and be in front of 2000-2500 people DJ’ing. It’s a little nerve-wracking, I’m not gonna lie. Because if you play one song and the crowd’s all just sitting there like, ‘What the hell?’ It’s nerve-wracking,” she admits. In the first week of March 2017, Jolie DJ'ed opening sets for 21 Savage, Lil Wayne and Travis Scott on separate nights at Story Nightclub in Miami as part of the build-up to the Rolling Loud hip-hop festival, giving her a taste of high-profile gigs. So far her DJ sets have been on the East Coast. “I have a lot more fanbase for my music on the East Side. I would definitely consider anything in New York or Miami and Chicago or Atlanta,” she says. “My last DJ gig was on a yacht in Miami. The one before that was Heart Nightclub [in Miami] because they hired me for four months straight.” She has also been holding down a regular shift on MyFreeCams. “I used to webcam a lot. I haven’t for the past two or three years, so I’m like OK, I’m getting back in the groove and starting to build this little schedule for myself,” Jolie says. “I’ve been having a lot of good reaction from my fans on Instagram going on to see me. … Some days are a little slow but I can’t complain. I’m enjoying it while I’m doing it because honestly I enjoy talking to my fans and seeing what they like, seeing what they want me to do. I get ideas from them and create custom videos and do all kinds of stuff.” Jolie reveals she is also working on a bikini brand. “I’m trying to make clothes,” she says. “I have a lot of friends in the clothing industry. I used to make clothes when I was younger. When I was 15 I was making shirts for a skateboarding company.” Jolie in 2018 says she helped design a sportswear collection for Dope Couture. “I’m trying to get shorts and bikinis made. It’s going to be cool, sexy but beach-y. I want knitted stuff. I want a sporty kind of feely or surfing kind of material. I want to do all kinds of different things and I want my girlfriends to post in them and go to the beach in them. That’s something that I’ve been working on,” she says. “I’ve been drawing out some sketches of how I want it to be. I’m just excited for it.” Jolie also has more ink—some of which was inspired by her love for astrology. “I like to study planets, the magnetic pull on everything and how it affects our energy and our emotions and stuff like that,” she says. “I like to consider myself to be very spiritual so I got Orion’s belt. With the pyramids in Egypt, they say they were used as an observatory to see the stars and to be able to tell the time…. So the pyramids were aligned to match Orion’s belt.” She adds, “I have a lot of things that remind me of meaningful times. When I see them it just reminds me of who I am.” Photography by @ohrangutang
