Kora Peters: A Passion for Helping Others |
Adult performer Kora Peters has never been afraid to speak her mind â or to get her hands dirty. Always vocal about issues which affect the health and well-being of performers, Koraâs passion for helping others extends well beyond the confines of the adult industry. Whether itâs volunteering her time and energy to helping rural health clinics or stepping up to assist a total stranger in the most unlikely of circumstances, Kora defies the stereotypes and stigmas which are, sadly, still attached to porn stars in the minds of far too many people. YNOT recently sat down with Kora to get a glimpse of what makes her tick. What we found was a woman who takes pride in her work â and whose true calling is helping others, in whatever ways she can. YNOT: How did you get started in the adult industry? Kora: Oddly enough I was talked into it by my friends in the music industry. Mostly the guys from Candlebox helped me make sure I was taken care of when I got to L.A. and we did some events together, like Playboy Radio. I introduced them at The Roxy to Ron Jeremy and Eden Adams when they played their first release from their then-upcoming album âInto the Sun.â Ahh, memories⦠that would have been 2008. Wow, time flies! YNOT: Of all the work you’ve done over the years, what gives you the most pride? Kora: I am proud of the fact that I try to make the adult industry a safer work environment for talent for years to come via better testing. I have spoken at the CDC and I have been published in Hepatitis Magazine. I continue to push for hepatitis vaccination rather than testing because I believe in preventative measures and (the success of) hepatitis A&B vaccines in the last 20 years. Twinrix makes a combo shot, so you donât even have to get a shot in each arm like I did when I got vaccinated before filming. What I am most proud of, however, is the fact that I know Iâve made a difference in other adult performersâ lives. One example being my friend Osa Lovely, we laughed as we recalled how we became friends. We had met at a party through mutual friends and exchanged phone numbers. We texted back-and-forth and I told her to call me no matter what and I would be there to help in any way I could. She called me one day and we were talking about how scary it can be to be a female performer and to have men stalk you and how to protect yourself if you donât live in a state where you can carry a gun. So, we got on the topic of that pepper spray and I said: âOh no, you must use the wasp spray and not pepper spray because pepper spray will take you down too, especially if you spray it in enclosed area.â Wasp spray will shoot 20â or more and only affect your attacker. I suggest going for the eyes. Take note ladies! YNOT: Tell us a bit about the various projects you have going on right now. I understand you’re considering starting a non-profit organization? Kora: Yes, I have been laying the groundwork for a non-profit organization. I need other likeminded people who are willing to actually work to make it happen. So, in the meantime I simply volunteer my own time and resources to help provide free condoms to rural clinics, public health departments and anybody else that needs free condoms. Thank you, Condom Nation, for your continued support in my endeavors! Outside of porn I am just another normal person, but I still like to help others. Last year around this time I was headed to Muscat, Oman via London and I ended up saving a manâs life on the plane ride to London. Itâs a good thing I travel with my own first aid and bloodborne pathogens kit. My friends would laugh at me until I actually used it to save a life and not just fix a boo-boo. |
