Nevada Gov. Dennis Hof? It Could Happen! |
RENO, Nev.—By his own assessment, today was a great day for Dennis Hof, owner of several brothels throughout the state of Nevada. For one thing, U.S. District Judge Richard F. Boulware II, an Obama appointee, ordered the Nye County Licensing Board to rescind its closure of Hof's Love Ranch South brothel outside of Crystal, Nevada, for alleged failure to pay its license fee. For another, there's a very good chance that Hof will win his lawsuit against former County Commissioners Andrew "Butch" Borasky and Dan Schinfofen of the County Licensing Board for having overstepped their legal authority under 42 U.S.C. §1983 in ordering the brothel's closing. "Right won out over might!" Hof declared. "The three stooges of Nye County, Lorinda Wichman, Dan Schinhofen and Butch Borasky, tried to put me out of business in the federal courts, and I'm like, no, this isn't gonna work at all—so we're opening up the Love Ranch tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock." Hof, who appeared in Judge Bouleware's courtroom this morning with his attorney, renowned First Amendment advocate Marc Randazza, secured an overturning of the closure order after a county employee testified that what Hof did was far from unusual. "Sure, I paid the bill late, but what they didn't say, and it came out in court today, is, for 20 years, nobody has paid the fee on time," Hof told AVN. "What's supposed to happen is this: Let's say we're talking about the third quarter, which begins July 1. That bill that they send out to you should have gone out in mid-May so you can pay it by June 1. They want you to pay a month in advance, but they don't ever send the bills out until like the second or third week of June, so everybody's always late, but that's just the way they've done it for 20 years, and that's what a county employee told the judge. And he's like, 'Why are you coming after Dennis when everybody in the county's paying late because you send the bills out late?'" All in all, Hof's interactions with county government have gone pretty much in his favor—at least, once he files suit against them. Take that petition to get all of the Nye County brothels closed, supposedly to help prevent human trafficking—which, of course, doesn't happen there. "This Lorinda Wichman is the one that mouthed off about it at a county commissioner meeting, but really, everybody knows it's really about me running for office and these two county commissioners, Schinhofen and Borasky, were for the guy I was running against, so they started doing terrible dirty things to me and I've got four federal lawsuits against the county and them personally, and I'm gonna win all of 'em," Hof predicted. And what suits are those? "There's one First Amendment action we've got against Nye County and Dan Schinhofen; another one is over some signs, political signs, and that one actually went in front of the same federal judge [Boulware] and he was like, 'No.' They impounded my signs that were against this guy Schinhofen. I had signs that said, 'Dirty Dan Schinhofen' and all that, so they impounded the signs and the judge had a special hearing on a Saturday night at 7 o'clock, which is unheard-of, and he said, 'No, I want the sign back there by 8 o'clock tomorrow morning or I'm going to find somebody in contempt of court.' "Another one is against Butch Borasky," Hof continued. "Now, Butch Borasky, at a county commissioners' meeting, and this is just designed to make me look bad in the press so I wouldn't win the election, said, 'You know, it's just a premonition but I'm pretty good about these things. If I end up dead, get hit by a car, get hit by a rock, end up dead, go to Dennis Hof, he probably did it.' So that bought him a federal suit. It's totally defamatory. So it's a great day for us. The hookers are happy; they're going back to work. My big concern about this was the 40 families that work for me, that I need to take care of, and now they can go back to work and I'm thrilled to death. Right won out over might, and Nye County just gets shown to be more corrupt every day." Some have suggested that Hof run for county commissioner, but he had bigger plans, namely a run for the state legislature, and the June election gave that prospect a big boost in several ways. "The campaign's coming along real good," Hof said. "I won the Republican primary. A Democrat has never won in that district, so I just think it's gonna be a walk in the park in November. We're taking this seriously but we know we're gonna win. And these county commissioners are out; they got voted out in June because they were against me and they caused me so much damage that Schinhofen lost to the person that I wanted in there, Deborah Strickland, and Borasky was running for Treasurer and he didn't even get close because of all the dirty shenanigans he did to me. Schinhofen was so upset, he claimed he had five months to get even with me, and that came out in court." But as far as Hof is concerned, becoming a Nevada Assemblymember will be just a first step in his political ascendancy, and it's partly due to the one open porn fan in Donald Trump's close circle. "I'm gonna run for governor," Hof declared. "Roger Stone, Trump's advisor, wants me to run for governor, and I'm probably gonna do it." Anyone remember when adult star Mary Carey was running for governor of California in 2003? One of her ideas to make money for the state treasury was to set up a webcam in the governor's (her!) bedroom, and citizens could subscribe to watch Mary get off. Well, think of what Hof could do as Nevada Governor, in a state where prostitution is legal in all but four counties!
