Iconic Home From âBoogie Nightsâ Sells for $1.21 Million |
PORN VALLEY—The groovy house used for filming the 1997 porn-themed Hollywood movie Boogie Nights just sold for $1.2 million, the Los Angeles Times has reported. The movie chronicled the wild west of porn life in Southern California’s adult industry during its “golden age” (1969–1984.) In the film, the indoor-outdoor house built in 1958 belonged to porn director Jack Horner, hilariously played by Burt Reynolds, who won the Golden Globe for his role and was nominated for an Academy Award. The 4,000-square-foot house, located in West Covina, California, has potential to be a rad pad today with removal of the offending wallpaper and a cool makeover. The wooden beams and stone fireplace are classic California midcentury-modern features. To prepare for the movie in 1997, the pool was renovated for the cocaine party scene and a hot tub was added, production designer Robert Ziembicki told Curbed in a post that maps 10 locations used in Boogie Nights, including the infamous Pussycat Theatre (which closed in 1998). Other locales include the "Hot Traxx Disco" where Jack Horner discovers Dirk Diggler (played by Mark Wahlberg), and Diggler's South Bay home where he lives with his parents. And more Boogie Nights fun facts: several prosthetic penises were designed for Wahlberg’s porn star character. The Woodland Hills house Diggler bought in the movie after he got famous is currently valued at $850,000. In addition to the movie reviving Burt Reynolds’ career, Julianne Moore was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. For Heather Graham, who played porn star Roller Girl, it was her breakout role. Paul Thomas Anderson, a San Fernando Valley native, was nominated for Best Original Screenplay. At the movie’s premiere in 1997, Executive Producer Michael DeLuca told me, “I wish there were more scripts like this one.”
