PoleCon 2017 Coming To Atlanta Beginning June 1 |
ATLANTA—The seventh annual edition of PoleCon, the convention that "celebrates the diverse pole dance/pole fitness community," is coming to Atlanta for the first time, and this latest edition is bigger than ever. The convention, which will be held Thursday through Sunday, June 1-4, will take over Atlanta's Hyatt Regency hotel, located at 265 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30303, offering Weekend Pass holders an opening night reception, free non-pole workshops, seminars, performances and access to the exhibit hall (featuring more than 30 vendors) all day Friday and Saturday with lunch included, and until noon on Sunday with breakfast included. Day passes for Friday and Saturday are also offered, and there's even a "Weekend Pass Junior" for ages 5-17 (as long as the kids are accompanied by a parent or guardian). Besides the free stuff, also available will be nearly 70 paid workshops, including such goodies as "Learn To Teach Twerk," Sergia Louise Anderson's "Quality of Movement Tricks and Transitions," Michelle Abbruzzese's "Pole Burlesque Class" and Natasha Wang's "Let's Get Dizzy Signature Spins and Combos." Those interested can sign up for them in advance here, but beware: Attendance is filling up fast and at press time, some workshops only had a few openings left. The convention has also invited pole dancers (women or men or teams) to perform at the show, though the deadline to sign up has passed. Dancers will be performing in categories including Artistic/Contemporary, Pole Masters (40+), Pole Comedy, Men of Pole, Sexy Pole, Lyra, PowerFlow, Troupes & Groups and Up & Coming Stars. The convention staff also invite volunteers to help out in areas such as pole cleaning during performances, checking in attendees to paid workshop rooms, set-up, clean-up, assisting with registration/information desk and other general duties as assigned. Volunteers are accepted on a first come/first served basis, and receive a 20 percent discount to attend the convention when committing to two 2-hour shifts (4 hours) over the course of the weekend. For more information and to sign up, email [email protected]/* */ and put “Volunteer” in the subject line. Polecon expects more than 225 professional pole dancers to attend, and it's likely that several adult performers will be among them.
