Former Miami Marlins Video Guy Now Shooting for Bang Bros |
MIAMI, Fla.—Most people, even those who couldn't give a crap about baseball, have probably heard of the Miami Marlins, the two-time World Series champions (1997 and 2003), and five of whose players are Hall of Famers. Well, the big news for porn fans is that the team's former video coordinator, Cullen McRae, who's used to spending hours in the editing bay making his teammates and others look good for national telecasts has now segued those skills into the exciting world of hardcore pornography. According to the Palm Beach Post, after McRae lost his gig with the Marlins, a friend suggested that he get into porn—and where better than local producer Bang Bros? McRae was hesitant at first, having gotten his ideas of what the adult business was like from Boogie Nights, but he decided to give it a try anyway—and was he surprised! "I went to their offices and met the people and I felt like I was in Silicon Valley," McRae told Post reporter Joe Capozzi. "It was clean and professional and structured. The guy who interviewed me told me they were looking for someone who could adapt to structure. I told them about my Marlins experience and how detail-oriented the Marlins were." And sure enough, he got the job—even though at least some of his family thinks the less of him for it. "I ain’t gonna lie. Some of them think I’m crazy," said McRae, a single father. "I’ll get calls, 'Are you really doing porn? What’s the matter with you?' As if something extremely bad must have happened for me to be in this position, which is not the case... these women [performers] are being paid a lot of money, and it’s kinda hard to exploit somebody if they actually enjoy their jobs." But for McRae, it's been interesting getting into the adult business. Some of his former teammates have expressed support, even if the team ownership won't comment, and his fellow Bang Bros workers are fascinated to hear his origins. "They’re like, 'You used to work for the Marlins? How the hell did you get here?'" he recounted, laughing. But Bang Bros seems to be happy that McRae made the switch. "He definitely brings a very different energy than we are used to," commented Bang Bros director Louis Molden. "His excitement to the process brings a positive vibe. It’s actually pretty cool to have." Being an editor, McRae isn't actually on set during shoots, but he said he had given suggestions to the directors and performers on how to make shots more appealing. "At the end of the day, we are trying to provide the best content possible," he told Capozzi. "Who wants to watch a video where the good action shots are blocked by someone’s arm or leg?" But in the end, McRae takes pride in what he does. "I feel really creative and I’m really proud of the work I do," he said. "At the end of the day, yeah, it’s adult video, but I’m having a blast and I’m enjoying the ride." And his co-workers feel the same—as perhaps evidenced by the accompanying photo of McRae with porn legend Ron Jeremy.
