Exhibitionist at Heart: Interview With Lauren Phillips |
This article ran in AVN magazine's October 2016 issue of AVN. See the digital edition here. Statuesque Lauren Phillips (“With two L’s: I like to be filled up”) was a professional modern dancer (“leotard, tights, hair in a bun, always ready for ballet class at 8:15 in the morning”) before she moved to Florida and started working in the adult industry in “amateur-pro porn, like Reality Kings and Mofos” and camming. “My friends thought I should be a porn star because I was very open about my sexuality as a dancer. I also taught dance: I can read choreography charts and I also know how to count to eight,” she adds with a laugh. “When I first started in porn I was testing the waters,” Phillips says. “But I found out that I’m an exhibitionist at heart. The thrill of it being videotaped and people watching me exhilarated me even more. I would get off on it. It exhilarates me that people are the watching my scene while I shoot it, and there are going to be even more people watching my scene, rubbing and jerking off to me. It was an exhilaration.” Her first scene was for Monster Curves 23 for Reality Kings: “They asked me, ‘Can you do this pose?’ with my legs over my head. And I was like ‘Of course I can.’” Her favorite scene so far is Stick to the Script with Danny D for Brazzers. “I was a telemarketer doing dirty talk and he was my boss, getting off on my dirty talk. It was a really good scene. If you like rough sex I totally recommend it.” Her dream scene is a gangbang “where I’m bathed in jizz. I’d like James Deen, Mick Blue, Prince Yahshua, Moe the Monster, Marcus London, Dick Chibbles. There are so many people. If I could get a million guys in there I’d be ecstatic. I haven’t worked with James Deen and Mick Blue yet. You always want to work with someone you haven’t worked with.” She is heavily invested in building her personal brand: “I’m a little more business-oriented than people would think. When I decided to come to L.A. I planned it out, first going to Florida and camming and building my name, so when I came to L.A. I had a bigger fan base. I interact with my fans all the time, on FreeOnes, on AdultDVDTalk, I’m on Twitter constantly. I answer everybody. I enjoy sex, and I enjoy my career. The adult industry is a community, and it’s a lifestyle I chose. I hope someday civilians understand that as well.” She is right now reading a book of essays by porn stars on telling their parents and friends about their work (Coming Out Like a Porn Star, edited by Jiz Lee), and she just finished Asa Akira’s Insatiable: “It was very interesting. I didn’t know she did a little bit of the drugs and stuff. Her detail was amazing. How she ended that book left me wanting more.” (Fortunately, there is more: Akira’s second book, Dirty Thirty, is now available; read an excerpt here.) Her words to live by: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Book Lauren Phillips through Nexxxt Level Talent Agency.
