Mick and Anikka: Porn’s Royal Couple

LOS ANGELES—Mick Blue and Anikka Albrite shared their first off-screen kiss on Friday, January 18, 2013, in Las Vegas, during the AVN Expo. According to Mick, it “was like when you have two magnets, plus and minus, once they reach a certain distance they’re drawn to each other and it’s hard to get them apart. That’s how it happened with our kiss. We didn’t have time to speak because we were just sucked into each other.” They’ve been inseparable ever since. Engaged in March 2013, married one year later, birthing BAM Visions in 2015, they celebrate their oneness this year with the release of Mick Loves Anikka on the BAM/Evil Angel label. Austria-born Mick worked in Europe before landing in Porn Valley in 2002. Arizona native Anikka moved west as a teen and blossomed into a sunny blonde California Girl.  The multiple awards they’ve won since becoming a couple—including several dual Performer of Year prizes—the widespread respect for them within the adult industry, and a large and worshipful fan base have earned them the affectionate title of “Porn’s Royal Couple.”  “We met in 2012 and had several sex scenes together,” Mick says, “but it was only work. I was in a relationship—I take relationships very serious—and she was also dating. So we were not free. And then finally…” Their engagement was commemorated in front of a waterfall in Australia in March 2013 and one year later they were married. “On our anniversary we like to go to tropical places,” Anikka says, citing jaunts to the Indian Ocean paradises of the Seychelles (2014) and the Maldives (2015).  This year in August they’ll be visiting Mick’s homeland. “We’re actually very fond of Austria,” he says. “My sister is going to have a baby, it’s due in September so we want to be there before.” “Family is very important to us,” Anikka adds.  That includes their professional family, which consists of another couple, the veteran porn technicians Claudio—aka Maestro Claudio—and Tiziana. Claudio is BAM’s director of photography, Tiziana the editor. “Claudio is phenomenal,” says Mick, “as you know from all the Mike Adriano stuff.” BAM Visions has released 21 titles since July 8, 2015, so another anniversary is at hand. The company’s creation had its genesis in one scene they shot in May 2015, a threeway with Valentina Nappi.  “It was kind of a tryout scene,” Mick says. ‘‘OK, shoot the scene, let’s see how it looks like, and then we see if we can make a whole movie out of it.’ So we shot the scene. We showed it to [John] Stagliano, he liked it, so we shot three more scenes and completed the first movie, Anikka’s Anal Sluts. After that we started to produce one movie a month, then two a month.”  And BAM Visions was welcomed into the Evil Empire. The Valentina scene has become a classic, honored by AVN as Best Threeway Scene of 2015, while Anikka’s Anal Sluts has garnered multiple awards and nominations.  The newly released Mick Loves Anikka is a milestone for its stars—not least because they co-directed it—a deeply personal collection of images and sex. “It’s one of those movies that developed organically,” Mick says. The first scene they shot was with their good friend Erik Everhard just before he relocated to Europe. They saw his leaving as “a great loss for the industry here in the U.S.” and wanted to commemorate it in some way.  “The first d.p. Anikka ever did was with Erik and myself, and it was such a great experience." (The scene, another AVN award-winner, appears in Hard X’s Anikka 2). “We don’t know where we’re gonna put it but we have to do it. We shot it last July around Anikka’s birthday. It was like a present for her that she gets d.p.'ed one more time by Erik and myself. There was a smile on her face.” Anikka smiles again. “I love double penetration, it’s my favorite. Unfortunately, I don’t do it a lot, but when I do do it it’s something that I really enjoy. We wanted to do it in every scene.” For at least one other scene, Mick says, “We wanted to incorporate nature… Anikka is very much a nature-oriented person.“ So right before the Christmas holidays he proposed, “Let’s go to Hawaii, Maui, beautiful island, waterfalls, beaches, temperature is fantastic. Let’s try to capture beautiful elements of the earth and connect with the beauty of Anikka. We flew there with an iPhone and the other camera I use for my regular stuff.”  “We rented a jeep in Maui,” Anikka recalls, “and just drove all along the coast of Maui. Whatever we saw that looked great, we would pull over and shoot something. It was pretty amazing. We didn’t actually plan on putting it in Mick Loves Anikka initially, but we wanted to come up with something special.” High on Anikka’s bucket list has always been to be filmed having sex under a waterfall. And on Maui that dream came true.  “We found this one waterfall where we shot the scene, and no people were there, we were completely alone, only Anikka and myself. Anikka said, let’s just shoot it…and she went into the freezing water.” “It was so cold. I was trying my best to look sexy.” Mick filmed the whole scene with his iPhone, both POV and with the phone on a mini-tripod, with several different setups. “The scene was created, guerilla style, just taking it by the moment.” There is a potent Garden of Eden vibe throughout. He also shot Anikka in other picturesque locations, including “above the clouds” on the slope of one of Maui’s active volcanos.   Mick has been directing for over a decade. His first was Meet the Fuckers, for Zero Tolerance in 2004. He shot pretty much exclusively for Zero/Third Degree for several years. When he got another deal from Elegant Angel he used the name Grazer to avoid a conflict. Later he turned out product for various studios, and shot for three years for the German company Magma. He recently produced a documentary for German porn giant Beate Uhse, Mick Blue’s L.A. Report, for the European market. Although Anikka has only directed three BAM movies, she says she loves it. “It’s something I wanted to do for quite some time. A great thing about directing is I get to choose the people I work with. All the girls we work with, Mick and myself, we love.”  They have the advantage of being able to use themselves as talent, which helps to keep production costs down. “But we’re very fortunate to have great performers working for us as well.” Anikka names Adriana Chechik and Aidra Fox—both featured in threeway scenes in Mick Loves Anikka—as “girls that I do love very much.” Going forward, Mick says, “We definitely want to stay focused on really, really great anal sex. The way I see it is it’s not just an anal scene, it’s more like—and that’s what I always explain to girls when I give them a debrief for the scene—we want to take the viewer on a journey, to experience the girl in any kind of way, to experience her personality, her sexuality, and then with this experience, it leads into the sex.”  Both Blues continue to work for other producers and they’re particularly hyped about their co-starring roles in Babysitting the Baumgartners from Adam & Eve Pictures.  “It’s our big feature movie of the year,” says Anikka. “It’s about a couple, Mr. & Mrs Baumgartner, who end up seducing their babysitter, Sara Luvv, and have a lot of sex with her, some really kinky stuff. There’s anal sex, there’s vaginal sex, girl-girl sex. It was actually made after a best-selling book. The author has a huge fan following.” When the actor originally cast as Mr. Baumgartner dropped out at the last minute, Mick was happy to fill in. “I said, I gotta do this—having sex with my wife for four days in this fantastic movie. It worked out really well.” Up next from BAM is Anal Tootsies, combining the anal and foot fetish niches, and Anikka’s Anal Sluts 2, a much-anticipated follow-up to their multiple award-winner. Actually, their most ambitious project right now is setting up a BAMVisions.com website. “That’s something we definitely have on our bucket list for the future. And hopefully it will work out soon for us to go online. Now you can see our product on the EvilAngel.com website.” Heading into the future, Mick looks at his BAM Visions team and likes what he sees. “Claudio is a genius behind the camera. Tiziana is a phenomenal editor.
