Frank Bukkwyd Tells 'What I Learned From Porn' This Weekend

LOS ANGELES—Most viewers of adult movies over the past 20 years are probably not familiar with the name "Steven Kates"—but if they've watched a fair amount of the output of such studios as Midnight Video, Vivid Video, Wicked Pictures, Simon Wolf Productions, Legend Video, Dreamland Entertainment and/or pretty much anything directed by Cash Markman, they've undoubtedly seen non-sex adult actor Frank Bukkwyd. Well, guess what? They're one in the same—and Kates has taken his Bukkwyd character "on the road" to comedy clubs and the like across the country for the past several years, and this weekend, he'll be doing his show as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. "Like you've never seen before!" Kates exclaims in his promotional flyer. "Unless you have seen it before! (In which case a lot of this will look familiar—only better!)" The description on the Hollywood Fringe Festival website is a bit more illuminating: "Since 1994, Frank Bukkwyd has been writing, acting and coaching in the field of Adult Entertainment, accruing 100s of credits to his made-up name. He’s just a guy who found himself invited into a curious situation that always arouses interest—so why not explain what the world of smut flix is like?"
