Kay Brandt Opens Auditions for âForkedââ¨â¨ |
LOS ANGELES—Kay Brandt on Friday announced plans for a new reality-based series for Adam & Eve called Forked that will be framed around a cooking show. The director plans to co-host the series with an adult star that she will select based on their audition clip; she is asking for performers that would like to be considered for the hosting role to submit their video clip to her at sublime.madness@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is May 22. “Instead of staging an audition, I’m asking for agents and talent to send me audition clips of them cooking,” Brandt told AVN. “This is a reality-type cooking show, but far more freestyle than something that would be staged.” The role of the host is to plan the party with Brandt, select the dishes and put together the scene partners for when the party turns sexual; Brandt is seeking to cast the entire show from the clips, not only the host. “We are excited to be working with Kay on Forked,” said Rachel Vigneaux, producer for Adam & Eve Pictures. “This is a different type of project for us, and we’ve been overwhelmed with the response we’ve already received." Forked is part YouTube series and part X-rated feature, according to Adam & Eve. It will have a stand-alone YouTube channel dedicated to the show and will link to the Adam & Eve VOD site, the Adam & Eve YouTube channel and more. “The dish doesn't have to be completely cooked in the clip, just the intro about it, list of ingredients, and then show it as a finished product," Brandt said. "The food must be sampled on the clip. We have to see how delicious it is. They have to win me over with their finesse in the kitchen, knowledge, talent and personality. “For those who can't cook, they should really show off their lively and fun personality in the kitchen—boiling water, making a sandwich, etc. This is a fun show, so, be the guest you'd want to hang out with in a group setting.” She also posted a video about the audition clips on Instagram @kay.brandt. Videos should be no longer than two minutes and contain no nudity, but performers may be scantily clad. The clips will be a prominent part of the series’ marketing campaign. “All of the non-sex material will be on Youtube first,” Brandt said. “Adam & Eve wants to be able to utilize Youtube beyond what they do with their channel that airs trailers. They’re letting me go beyond their normal parameters to do this. It’s exciting.” The cast for Forked will be announced May 25 and principal photography is scheduled for June 15-16. “This is a sex series, so all who get cast will be performing in the episode as well,” Brandt noted, adding that she will be appearing in a non-sex capacity. The project marks new territory for Adam & Eve and Brandt, who received critical acclaim for 2015's Safe Landings and is finishing post-production on her next feature, Babysitting the Baumgartners, due out in June. With the reality-style element, the talent in Forked “may or may not know who they’re performing with until the party,” the director said. “There will be an outline and a structure to the show. I’ll be directing from the inside, visibly, without looking like a director.” Brandt acknowledged Forked is somewhat of a departure from the twisted romantic dramas for which she’s best known. “I’ve always wanted to experiment,” Brandt said. “I like experimenting and breaking new ground and doing different things. For the past seven years I’ve wanted to do some sort of reality series. “There’s no denying the success of reality TV in mainstream. It’s everywhere and everything. There’s no reason it can’t translate into adult as well, seeing adult stars mingling casually and being able to show their culinary skills and sex skills in one show. Even if they don’t have culinary skills they could just be someone lively. Be interesting. "This is not a drama. It’s very contemporary and it could be competitive with anything else that’s on television. This is just a new way of interacting with adult stars and adult film.” Brandt’s Safe Landings received six nominations for the 2016 AVN Awards, including Best Director-Feature, Best Drama, Best Screenplay, Best Marketing Campaign and two Best Supporting Actor nods—for Xander Corvus and Marcus London. She adapted the screenplay from her novel of the same name that was released as an e-book last summer through Excessica Publishing. Brandt has helmed more than 40 movies since 2009 and is also a bestselling author on Amazon.com with 17 erotic novels.
