Like Herschel Savage? How About Crowdfunding His Bio Play? |
HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Herschel Savage may have pretty much stopped performing hardcore in 2011, but his résumé of having appeared in over 1,200 movies beginning in 1975 is nothing to sneeze at—and if the Kickstarter campaign he recently started is successful, anyone with the price of a ticket can see him tell all about it in the play he's currently writing, Star Studded: My Life In Porn. "Some people consider me the luckiest guy in the world," Savage said in the video that accompanies his campaign. "I had amazing sex with scores of hot beautiful women, traveled to exotic locations worldwide and I was paid well to do it. It seemed like the good times would never end. "But it did," he continued. "In 2008, America's economy stuffed with subprime home mortgages perpetrated by a corrupt banking industry collapsed, and the whole world fell into a deep recession. The porn world fell on hard times, and at 55 years old, I found great difficulties securing any consistent work. With no alternative skill set, my security quickly evaporated. There is no unemployment for porn stars. "On a lighter note, in 2009 I had a stroke, which limited my ability to work at all. Fortunately, in 2012, I was cast in the starring role of a wildly successful play in Hollywood. With this relaunch of my dreams, my new goal is to write and perform a one-man show chronicling my life growing up in Brooklyn, my unexpected entrance into the adult film industry, and my attempt to create value outside the world of porn. With your help, this over-the-top show will be created." With just two weeks to go, Savage's campaign hasn't yet been very successful, perhaps in part because the campaign doesn't have very many perks to offer small supporters: a listing in the program book, a Facebook shoutout and autographed mini-posters of the show. But once into the $100 range, supporters can get two VIP tickets to the show's first performance, with the top prize a VIP dinner party with Herschel at his producer's home. Hopefully, those who remember Savage fondly from his 30-year career in front of the XXX camera can find it in their hearts (and pocketbooks) to give Savage's life story a chance to be seen on stage.
