Pornhub College Scholarship Winner Revealed

SAN ANTONIO, Texas—For the past several years, MaryAnn Uribe has had a difficult life. In 2011, while working as an administrator at a local law firm, Uribe discovered that some of her attorney bosses were committing the crime of "barratry": soliciting clients to file lawsuits that ultimately will financially benefit the attorney him/herself. So Uribe did what any good citizen would do: she reported her bosses' crime to state authorities—and so, in the aftermath, according to an article in the Washington Post, one of her attorney bosses tried to hire a hit man to kill her. Fortunately, the prospective hitman thought better of the offer, and reported the attorney to the Texas Rangers, which arranged for the hitman to wear a wire when confirming details of the deed with the attorney, who reportedly said that he "wanted something to happen to Uribe." That attorney is expected to go on trial for solicitation of capital murder and barratry in April; one of his law partners will be tried for felony barratry that same month. But though still alive, the whole situation has given Uribe a case of agoraphobia—fear of being in open spaces—and even a bit of a stutter. "Every little thing sets me off: strange voices or the dog barking or the postman knocking," Uribe said. "It can send me to the floor." Uribe described the whole incident in a homemade video which she submitted to Pornhub as part of their contest inaugurated last summer to award a $25,000 scholarship to a deserving viewer as part of the company's efforts to give back to the community whose millions of viewers support the ISP—and she won! "We were looking for someone who spread happiness and effected positive change," said Pornhub VP Corey Price. "She's been through a lot. … When negative things happened, she really stood up for herself." According to the WaPo report, in the video she made in applying fo rthe Pornhub scholarship, "Uribe read messages from her friends describing Uribe’s efforts to brighten their day. In the video, Uribe said that her friends described her as loyal, the kind of person that can be called on a moment’s notice to help out. Uribe said that she’s also known for her kindness and willingness to stick up for those in need." Uribe said that she intends to use the money to seek a bachelor's degree from Troy University in Alabama, which she said would "provide her [with] personal fulfillment and happiness."
