Will Porn Fans Send This Woman to Grad School? |
Adult film director/producer Courtney Trouble is trying to better herself with higher education, and with just a week to go on her Indiegogo campaign, a generous anonymous donor has offered to match, by 50 percent, whatever monies Trouble can raise on the fundraising site—as long as she gets at least $5,000 in contributions. "We're at $3,257 right now, which is 65 percent of the $5,000 target, and we've got a week to go before the funding period ends. Whew!" Trouble stated in a recent email. "I know we can do this—but it means we need to bring in $250 a day. This is totally doable, but I need your help! "This year in the TROUBLEfilms headquarters, I have been entrenched in deep, mutually educational, heavy collaborating with Kitty Stryker, Chelsea Poe, Ajapornfilms, James Darling, Jacqueline Mary, Tobi Hill-Meyer, April Flores, and Cinnamon Maxxine," she continued. "This is the kind of dream team I have been fantasizing about for a lifetime in this industry, and it's such a strong enough crew that I've finally decided to take a step down, invest in their ideas, and enrich my life in ways other than the daily grind of running a porn production company. "I'm devoting the next two or three years of my life to grad school, getting an MFA at the California College of the Arts, to get better at what I've always wanted to do: to make art that makes a difference. I've been working on projects outside of the adult industry; work like one piece, Apricot 4 Apricot, which screened at the 2015 National Queer Arts Festival as part of Hanky Code: The Movie. I've also finished a music video, going up this week, for talented local artist Micahtron." Trouble is due to start school in August, so securing the funding for her first tuition bill is the first priority—though close behind is making sure that she's set up the workflow for TROUBLEfilms to produce in her absence as a commercial director. "While I do that, my company's money will be going to funding queer, trans, POC, plus size, and disabled creative geniuses in what I can only describe as a modern day feminist pop art porn Warhol//Factory situation," she added. "Everyone is making groundbreaking, gorgeous, commercially viable art and I want to make sure that these things get made while I continue to have the ability to fund them. And, when I get my MFA, I'll be able to teach people for a living! "I have a week left on my fundraiser!" she exclaimed, hoping that fans will respond before it's over and put her grad school fund over the top.
