Devil's Film Starts New Series: 'Twisted Fantasies' |
CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Longtime production company Devil's Film has premiered a new series, Twisted Fantasies. The first edition, Day Dreams, was directed by David Lord and features Maddy O'Reilly, Mercedes Carrera, Chanel Preston, Savannah Snow, Dahlia Sky, Derrick Pierce, Tommy Gunn and Marco Banderas in four scenes with a 1:55 run time. "This is the first time we've gotten into the bondage genre," Devil's Film VP of production and sales Steve Volponi told AVN. "It's the only thing that we weren't doing. We wanted to do something that has a boutique-store feeling. Something for couples that we can get into boutique-y stores, because a lot of them are doing this kind of 50 Shades-type stuff and instructional DVDs. My outlook was that if we made it soft enough for broadcast and get everything else out of it, it would be perfect. I think we hit it on the head." Part of the boutique appeal is in the box cover, with four of the production's stars front-and-center. "On the box cover alone I was getting tons of feedback and it was all good," Volponi said. "It didn't look like a normal Devil's cover. The picture and the concept that my artist Omar came up with blew me away. We have art and editing in-house: We're 100 percent hands on." Volponi selected industry veteran and longtime colleague David Lord to direct. "I've known Volponi forever, so when he gave me the opportunity to come over to Devil's and make a higher-end product, I jumped at the chance," Lord told AVN. "He wanted to do something artistic and sexual and hot, and we came up with this idea. Basically, it's the hottest chicks in porn, top of the line girls, and make them look as beautiful as possible artistically. I come from the school of Andrew Blake, Michael Ninn, Brad Armstrong. I have a love of making things look beautiful. Also, it's something that everyone can enjoy. You don't have to be in the lifestyle to enjoy this." "I've known David for a long time, and he was always on my radar," Volponi said. "When we did the Justin Bieber parody, I was on set and some of the stuff Dave shot was killer. It was really funny. His style of shooting is phenomenal. I've known him for a long time, and I thought, 'I've got to get him in here, have him shoot something really good for us that's different.' We've been shaking it up here, doing different projects to branch out from our norm. He did a phenomenal job. He's the real deal." In keeping with its subtitle, the scenes in Twisted Fantasies: Day Dreams are different from other genre material: although the themes of domination and submission are in evidence, all four scenes take place in daytime and three are set in predominately white environments, unlike the familiar dungeons and night-darkened rooms. "We kept it consistent," Lord said. "I'm a fig fan of the Andrew Blake soft-and-fluffy look, but with this intense tone. A bondage sensibiity with an aesthetic. Pretty, perfume ad-y look. I'm glad the way it turned out. With the stars, I can set the table, but if the cast isn't there you have a sucky movie and everyone across the board did an amazng job. Savannah Snow came out of left field, I didn't even know she existed. That was the surprise of the show. She's stunning." "Maddy's scene was really great," Volponi said. "She has great chemistry with Derrick. When they were editing it I was looking and I thought, 'Wow.' We got Savannah Snow, who is really new and only does girls. I asked her who she would like as a Domme and she said Chanel Preston. We got the chemistry down. "It wasn't rushed at all. We gave Dave the money to get a location, take his time, do everything right." There are already plans for a second edition, Volponi said, with a late July release date and cast tentatively including Skin Diamond, Jayme Langford, Katrina Jade, Missy Martinez, Mr. Pete and Derrick Pierce. "The next one is going to be called Dark Desires. We'll be a bit edgier. We restrained them and we caged them in Day Dreams. It's going to get a little harder in the next one. We're planning to do themes for each one. I'm looking forward to starting this thing and getting it rockin'. "Every two or three months we can put another one out. We want to keep high-end casts. We do everything here, from trannies to grannies. We want to keep this line pristine and up there. I have the feeling it's something we're going to continue, maybe even branch out into some other things. I've been approached by Maddy about directing something like that. ... Who knows, we might have a whole new separate genre coming out of here."
