MindBrowse.com's 2nd 'Women in Porn' Debate Will Be Nov. 18 |
CYBERSPACE—MindBrowse.com announced today that a second edition of its Women in Porn: Shattering the Myths online debate is scheduled for November 18 at 3 p.m Eastern time. Moderated by sociologist Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals, the discussion will cover a variety of hot-button issues regarding the evolving place of women within the adult entertainment industry. “Our first show was a smashing success, and we received a lot of really great feedback from viewers, including both people in the industry and the public at large,” said Sssh.com owner/founder Angie Rowntree, who produces and coordinates all MindBrowse.com events. “Our panel did an amazing job with the first discussion, and we’re very fortunate to have the entire group back for the second debate.” Tibbals said that this installment of the Women in Porn series will focus on the intersection of mainstream media and porn. Panelists will discuss the mainstream’s veritable advertisement of tube sites and the impact Hollywood films like Don Jon (2013) and Sex Tape (2014) may have on preventing piracy. Mixed messages from prominent public figures will also be discussed. For example, Girls creator Lena Dunham’s career is heavily reliant on nudity and sex-related storylines, yet she has publicly blasted adult entertainment as “gross”—what impact might these types of mixed messages have on the adult industry, the women who work in it, and attitudes about sex in general? “What we see, how we speak, and how cultural artifacts are spoken about are hugely significant components of social life. Specific issues like those we are going to discuss on this installment of Women in Porn shape the way we experience adult entertainment, both within the industry and outside it,” Dr. Tibbals asserted. “I’m looking forward to another spirited, smart, and compelling discussion with our generous panelists.” Panelists for the event include adult performer/director Ashley Fires, MakeLoveNotPorn.com co-founder Cindy Gallop, Penthouse Managing Director Kelly Holland, and author/attorney Frederick Lane. Kicking off at 3 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, November 18, Women in Porn 2 also will be live-tweeted and monitored here under the hashtag #WomenInPorn. As with all MindBrowse.com events, viewers can interact with the panelists, pose questions, and post observations of their own. “Audience participation is something we really want to encourage,” Dr. Tibbals said. “Our panel is so amazing, we could go on for hours based just on their interplay, but we want to hear from viewers and from porn fans—and from people who don’t approve of porn, as well. These are big issues with substantial impact on our culture, and we want to encourage discussion. All perspectives are welcome.” For more information on the Women in Porn 2 debate, or to watch previous MindBrowse.com events, please click here. All MindBrowse events are free of charge.
