Jasmin.com Offers to Help Jezebel.com With Its Troll Problem

CYBERSPACE—As anyone who's read the woman-friendly news/entertainment site Jezebel.com over the past few days knows, the site's "comments" section has been flooded with sexually violent content, both hateful remarks and even uploaded animated .gifs, often depicting rape and other violence against women. The result has been a public outcry from not only the site's own editorial staff, but from several other socially conscious sites and bloggers including Pharyngula.com and Feministing.com. But now, Jasmin.com, one of adult entertainment leading webcam sites, has offered to help Jezebel, which is owned by Gawker Media, and its Editorial Director Joel Johnson by outsourcing Jasmin's IT team to moderate and help eliminate/prevent any future posts that make Jezebel's reporters, and its readers, the targets of malicious harassment. As a company that values its own female employees, and operates under an immense infrastructure and moderated environment, Jasmin.com VP Jerry Jardene said that he feel compelled to lend a hand. Jardene, through Jasmin.com's employees and on its site, has already reached out to Johnson to offer his site personnel's assistance. "On behalf of our company, which consistently services multiple digital devices and operating systems, would like to offer up the services of our IT team—free of charge—to work alongside your staff to eliminate the offensive content being posted on your site," Jardene wrote. "As a company that values its female employees, we were outraged to learn that Jezebel’s reporters have been the subject of such malicious harassment. "To give you some background, our site is the largest in our industry," Jardene claimed, "and receives over 60 million unique visitors a month (ranked 74th by Alexa Internet rankings), which requires a crack team to keep our immense infrastructure up-and-running, while also maintaining a carefully moderated environment for each of the models that work on our site on a daily basis. "If possible, I’d love to discuss how we can help protect the Jezebel website, and give you the necessary boost in resources to prevent similar occurrences in the future. I really appreciate your consideration, and am looking forward to hearing back from you soon. At press time, no reply from Johnson or Jezebel had been received, but the Jezebel site currently has posted a paragraph about the incidents reading, "Gawker Media's tech crew has now disabled image uploads on comments in an effort to confront our Rape Gif Problem. Tech tells us that this is a temporary fix until something more long term can be worked out, but in the meantime: you're all free from the troll scourge." Those with additional questions about the issue, or who would like to speak with the team for more info, may email Jasmin.com here.
