Interview: On DVD or On Air, Lexington Steele Stands Tall

LOS ANGELES—Lexington Steele is an imposing figure, both literally and figuratively. One of the most recognizable names in adult, he has earned accolades and trophies as both performer and director. And after 18 years in the business, he still has a few tricks up his sleeve. This month, Steele will street Lex’s POV, a new series released by Evil Angel that he worked on with Kevin Moore, which features co-stars Capri Cavanni, Kiara Mia, Phoenix Marie and Kimberly Kendall. “Essentially, this is the next series of different things all within the gonzo niche,” Steele told AVN. “I always try to do something new with each series; I want there to be variety … something that will keep people consistently excited. With these micro-niches, all within the realm of gonzo, I think we have something for everyone.” Among those gonzo realms he’s exploring at Evil Angel are Lex Is A Motherfucker (a MILF series), Lex Steele’s Black Panthers (an ethnic series) and The Lexecutioner (an all-anal series). Steele said he was excited not only to do POV work, but also to do it with Kevin Moore. “Kevin and I go back to the 2000s, when he was a production manager for John Leslie,” Steele said. “As he developed as a director, we worked on other projects, too. To work with him on this new series is great because we get to work under the Evil Angel umbrella together.” Moore, who has made a name for himself as an Evil Angel director, was behind the move to bring Steele and his Lexington Steele Productions to Evil. Steele stars in the movies and also works behind the camera with Moore, who he says is “a great director who is also a great photographer and videographer.” Steele added, “I’ve been fortunate to work with great people throughout my career, such as Jules Jordan. … I tend to be very team oriented, and I try to align myself with those who are experts in their field.” Speaking of Jordan, the two worked together recently on Lex the Impaler 8—out now and featuring seven women and six scenes on two discs. In addition to the movies Steele distributes through Evil Angel, classic titles from his own company—Mercenary Pictures, founded in 2004—are now available through Pure Play Media. Last month the distributor released Fresh Out the Box 1, Manhammer 1 and Pole Position: Lex POV 1. And if that weren’t enough, also hitting the shelves on July 22 is the second installment in a series released by Dreamzone Entertainment: The Housewives of Lex Steele 2, starring Lea Lexis, Brooklyn Chase, Kaylynn and Nikita Von James. Steele said his goal is to continue his work with Mercenary Pictures as well as with Evil Angel, putting out new titles on a regular basis for each series he’s created. One month it might be a new title in the ethnic series and the MILF series, and another month might be titles in the anal series. “These are all fun to work on and produce, and it will be fun letting the fans knows what’s coming in their favorite series,” he said. But it’s not just movies where Steele is making his mark these days: He is also keeping busy with radio. In 2012, he created the radio show Size Matters, which aired on LATalkRadio.com. When it become a live streaming show on online TV, he moved it to RadioTemptation.com; it continues to air there from 8-9 p.m. Mondays. Past LATalkRadio.com episodes are available on ToadHopNetwork.com. “On that show, I interview all types of personalities,” he said. “We have adult stars, and stars from sports and mainstream as well.” The role of interviewer is one Steele is comfortable with: In the mid-2000s he hosted Lex in the City on Playboy TV. Now, he has also started Fourth and Goal, a show that features no adult content at all but instead focuses on sports, one of Steele’s major loves in life. (His favorites are basketball and soccer. “I live and breathe basketball,” he said. “I can talk about sports all day.”) The show airs from 9-10 p.m. Tuesdays on Live 365, available on UStream and Playstation 4. “It really lets me keep up my skill set as an actor, and interviewer,” he said of the shows. “People might not realize that I have been a member of SAG [Screen Actors Guild] since 2007. I have done a lot of mainstream work, but because I focus on gonzo in adult, they don’t realize I can act. To be honest, there are not a lot of acting roles for black men in adult. But I have had some chances to act here, thanks to Axel Braun, who is a good friend.” Steele said he plans to continue to break new ground in the coming years. Already, he has started working on his autobiography, and plans to have it finished and ready for sale by 2016, if not sooner. And he will take his speaking skills and begin a new venture with Lex’s Sex Tours, starting in 2015.
