Neil Young's Twitter Account Was Porn Hacked This Weekend

TWITTERSPHERE—Everyone knows that porn hackers come in all shapes, sizes and pathologies, that they are able to generate all levels of outrage, and that most of them are by definition oblivious to the idea that places exist where porn simply has no place being, but Neil Young's Twitter account? Really? You had to go there? Things are back to normal now on an account that usually runs to the quiet side of things, mostly offering tweets about upcoming appearances or political activism by the legendary rocker who maintains a loyal following of aging Boomers, progressives and young 'uns lucky enough to appreciate the roots of Young's music and the authenticity that he has always brought to his live performances through the years. But this weekend, according to Mashable, Young's Twitter account was porn hacked. "Whoever hijacked Young's verified account (@Neilyoung) tweeted various pornographic (NSFW) images, many of them retweets from the account of a prominent porn site," wrote Pete Pachel on Saturday. "The hacker also sent out several expletive-laden tweets, adding the hashtag #neilslayed to some of them, apparently to draw attention to the hack. Indeed, the hackers apparently sought attention by tweeting about the very hack itself, with someone named SLUT FOR THE D tweeting, "Please disregard my last few tweets. This account was hacked, but it has now been resolved and taken care of." According to Mashable, "That tweet actually appears to have been the start of the hack, although it's unclear if any previous tweets were deleted. The account's last tweet before Friday night was on May 28, which promoted one of Young's albums being featured on a BBC radio station. "Another tweet from Young's account accused two other Twitter users of being behind the hack, but again, the claims are highly questionable. The hacker also replaced Young's photo with one from a seemingly random Tumblr." The article also notes that a rep from Young's camp indicated that they were in touch with Twitter, and by the time the new week rolled around, all residues of the hack were gone. As it stands now, that May 28 tweet remains the last one on the account, which is now returned to its original programming. All is once again quiet in the realm.
