Dana Vespoli’s ‘Hollywood Babylon’ Scoring Good Reviews

VENICE, CA—Dana Vespoli’s anticipated release, Hollywood Babylon, hit the shelves last week and reviewers are already weighing in and the scales are tipping in Dana’s favor—big time. Two reviews have been posted to Adult DVD Talk from prolific and respected scribes Captain Jack and bono-ONE, while one of the industry’s most veteran voices, Don Houston, wrote it up for XCritic. “This is a fantastic disc with great acting, a superb story and hot sex,” Captain Jack wrote. “Sovereign [Syre] acquits herself well both in the acting and in her sexual performances. She carries this story and pulls it off. The sexual escapades offer something for everyone. There’s hot gonzo sex and soft, romantic sex. There are threesomes and just-plain-hot twosomes. This is a disc that will appeal to everyone. Great job by both Dana and Sovereign and everyone else involved in this project!” Bono-ONE was equally as enthusiastic, saying that Dana “has written a solid piece of feature entertainment,” and notes especially the performances from Sovereign—who performs in her first five on-screen boy/girl sex performances ever—and co-star veteran Steven St. Croix. “Sovereign has a lot of dialogue in this and holds her end up quite nicely in addition to doing four scenes of strong b/g action with the one scene also featuring some great g/g love between her and Valentina,” bono-ONE wrote. “It's a solid piece of feature work, and if you long to see Sovereign do some fine acting along with taking on a few cocks, this is well worth picking up.” Over at XCritic, Houston said the movie “will be talked about for some time to come” and is a “must have” for Sovereign fans. “Dana likes to stray far from the beaten path,” Houston wrote, adding that “fans of her work will need this one and it amounts to a must-have for those who appreciate Sovereign Syre even a little bit. In short, Hollywood Babylon was a showcase for light BDSM themes and Sovereign Syre’s first on camera scenes with males, Dana’s creative story telling via sex scene and limited story elements again bound to make waves, so check it out.”Dana is featured in AVN’s series of interviews by Jason Lyon called “The Storytellers.” It originally appeared in the April 2014 issue of AVN and was added to the AVN website on Friday. In the feature Dana discusses her process, which is widely celebrated for bringing unusual and original results to the most often clichéd, derivative, by-the-numbers output of Porn Valley.“I throw it out the window,” Dana said of the expectations people have for a porno. “I don’t obey those rules. I don’t direct the sex. I think every director has their own goals when it comes to the actual sex. It’s really important to me that the sex be as authentic as possible. The hard part for me is really just in the casting and finding the people that I believe can do what I’d like to see them do. And then I also like to leave room for discovery. I like to watch people find something in the scenes for themselves.
