Fresh Face: Interview with Sophia Fiore |
Statuesque Sophia Fiore came to the adult industry from fashion and nude modeling, but is also deeply involved in the world of competitive fitness, having worked as a personal trainer and competed in fitness competitions. She has performed in 40-some scenes including online and video releases, and she prides herself on her professional attitude: "I know some people show up, shoot, and leave. I think that people who want to be in this industry and really like it put a lot of effort into it. Everything I do. I put as much as I can into it." The Basics:Hometown: Austin, Texas | Age: 22 | 5-foot-10, 165 lbs. 36D-26-40 | Hair: Auburn | Eyes: Brown AVN: How did you start with this? Sophia Fiore: I did mainstream runway and print modeling and then some nude modeling. Then I met a girl who was doing solo scenes and she helped me get work shooting. I've always been comfortable with my body nude, so I'm comfortable with being on camera, and I thought that sounded kind of fun, and from there I met my first agent. That didn't work out, and then I signed with LA Direct Models and they've been guiding my career. What did you do before this? I was a model, and I was also a leasing agent for apartments. I've been a personal trainer and a competitor in NPC fitness competitions, and my last show I qualified for the national competitions. I was going to school—I still am—and I want to be a nutritionist. I know a lot about nutrition now through competing, which tells you a lot about food. A lot of the girls in the industry will ask me about that, because I bring my own food to sets. I'm a stickler for what I eat. I used to work at a gym as a personal trainer, but I didn't like that I couldn’t make my own schedule. I love fitness and I love working in the industry, and I don't want to give up one for the other. I missed out on shoots because I was scheduled at the gym. Now I work on my own schedule in both. How many scenes have you done now? I think it's above 40, but I don't have the exact number. The first scene I did, the guy had never done a scene either. I was nervous because I didn't want to look stupid and not know what I'm doing. The guy was late, and apologizing and saying it was cold and he was nervous and I thought, "Oh, no…" We did the stills but when it was time to do the scene it just wasn't happening. He wasn't able to keep it up at all. They called a guy they have on-call, and he knew what he was doing. It helped a lot having him say, "Put your hair up, turn your head this way." In the end it was for the best that he was there. What's the best scene you've done so far? I don't like saying I have one best scene. One of my favorite scenes is for Brazzers, "Slutty Girl Fitness." It was a lot of fun. The script was funny. Sexy and funny, like the old fitness workout videos. I was the trainer, trying to seduce Johnny Sins with my fitness routine. Both of us are really fit, we really care about our bodies, so on screen it looked really good. There are a couple of things we did that you really have to have some muscle to do. It was really hot. Johnny brings his food to set too, so we had that in common. Who do you want to work with that you haven't worked with yet? Girl-wise, Ana Foxxx. She's one of my best friends. She's super fit but she doesn't work out. Pisses me off. We went out for New Year’s and I looked at her arms and I thought, "Dammit. You have that on accident." We were supposed to work together a while ago but we never did. For guys, Derrick Pierce. He's just incredibly sexy. Super, super fit; tattoos. Is fitness a really big turn-on for you? Oh yeah. It's one of my turn-ons. I really like girls who are model-esque, Victoria's Secret models, they're skinny but they have curves. I saw one stripper New Year's Eve and I was like, "Look at her shoulders!" She was really strong so she could do things on a pole. Push-ups. I was mad that I didn't have my purse because if I had money I would give her all of it. Fitness is a definite turn-on for me. I love it so much. I like what it's done for my body, and other bodies as well. How is making videos different from what you thought? I was doing nude modeling, but it's different because it's a different kind of acting and emotions that you're portraying. Nude modeling, it's just one emotion, and you aren't really acting. On video, I lose myself a bit more. It's more free. I have more fun with video. What’s the biggest misconception outsiders have of the adult industry? There are two: Some people think that because you're in the adult industry you're on drugs, and desperate for money to buy drugs. I hate that misconception. ... I want to ask those people: "Have you ever been to a scene?" I've never seen that. I've never done drugs. I drink, but on weekends when I don't have to shoot. The other one: Because we're in the adult industry, people think we have sex with anyone around. Just because we shoot on camera we're like whoever, whenever, don't care about catching anything. I make sure I'm really safe, and I know everybody in the industry tests. I love sex, but people think that if you have sex on camera you're disconnected from emotion. That's not true. I love having sex on camera, but if it's off camera I want it to mean something. What are your biggest turn-ons? One of them is fitness, be it a guy or girl. I like really dominant and alpha guys. It's not about being dominating and mean, like slapping and calling me names; it's more like an attitude. If you don't have that attitude and you're faking it, I can tell and it won't turn me on. I'm with some guys and they just know automatically, and I'm like "Whoa! Yes! I didn't have to tell you." With girls, I like being dominant. If a girl is really good at subbing, that's a turn-on for me. Describe your dream sexual scenario. The guy would have to be very, very fit. Not bulky but a good amount of muscle tone, alpha, dominant demeanor. I do like some bondage, but I like handcuffs—not rope. And then I would get dominated by him. What three personal items would you take if you were stranded on a desert island? Is there an outlet? My first thing would be my Hitachi. That was the first thing that came to my mind. The next two, I would say, would be my phone because I want my music. The third thing would be a squat bar so I could work out. What’s the most valuable life lesson you’ve learned? Do whatever I think is best for me, and don't go with what anyone else has to say. It goes along with the adult industry and with fitness: You can't worry about what people say all the time. It's not that common for girls to work out the way I work out, and I know some people don’t like girls with muscle. I would hear "Don't get too bulky. Women don't look good with more muscle." If I listened to that, I wouldn't work out, and I wouldn't have the body I like to have. I like my body and I like working out. I had to learn to stop listening to what people think and do what makes me feel happy. Same thing in the adult industry. Some people don't understand it and they haven’t had any experience with people in the industry. They don't know enough about it to even partially understand it. Some people don't like that I do that, and I had to learn to not listen to that. It's something I like doing and it's not hurting anyone else. I don't have a problem doing it. How would you spend your last day on Earth? I think I know what you're going to say. No, you don't. I think my last day on Earth, I would [giggle] just have sex and work out. Work out! Yes! That's probably what I would do. I'm sure there a lot of other things I could do. Bungee jumping sounds fun. If I didn't have a whole lot of time left it'd be have-sex-work-out. How would your best friends describe you? I seem like I'm really cool and sexy, but off-camera I'm a dork. When I'm not on camera I'll see a sexy guy and I'll try to walk by all cute and sexy—and I'll trip. I'm goofy and silly. I'm really random. How do you spend your free time? I'm working out, or I'm looking up fitness articles. I also do my own research about how to market myself, industry and fitness-wise. Sometimes I just hang out with my friends. If you weren't doing this, what would you like to be doing? If I weren’t doing this I would focus on fitness. I'm doing both now, but if I wasn't doing this I would focus on personal training and fitness. Nutrition, that kind of thing. Do you have a long-range plan? I have goals I want to accomplish, but I don't have a set plan. I have a goal, and I try to work every day to get to that goal. I have long-term goals, and some for six months, three months, every week and every day. And I make sure that the little goals lead to the big goals. That's what helps me stay on track. If I just have long-term goals I'm not as focused. You need little goals in between. Quick Hits Food you would be able to eat every day: Quinoa. Best concert you’ve been to: In Texas, there's Beyond Wonderland. I like house, hip-hop and techno, and they had Rusko, Pretty Lights and Kid Cudi. They're some of my favorite bands still. I want to see Empire of the Sun. They're here all the time but I haven't seen them yet. Pet peeves: I don't like people who are unprofessional. If you're not professional, it pisses me off. I like to make sure that things get done in a timely manner and in the correct way, and if you're not being professional and delay that, you're just wasting time. I don't like people who waste time. One thing you would like to change about yourself: If I don't know someone, I can be shy and won't talk that much. I think people see that as me thinking I'm better than them. When I met Ana it was at Penthouse and I didn't know anybody and I kept to myself. Months later, I met her through a mutual friend and she thought I didn't like her because I didn't talk to her that day. What gets you in the mood: Music is one thing that I really like. Depends on the person. Also, sometimes, after I work out [giggle]. When I do hamstring curls, it feels like an orgasm to me. Is there anything else we should know about you? I'm making a YouTube channel to post video blogs about my everyday life. Show my personality. Some people, after they meet me, have a better understanding about people who work in the adult industry. They assume a lot, and they don't see us as people, but as sexual things. We're people. We laugh, we joke, we have friends like everyone else, and people don't think about that. I want people to see that there are other sides to people who work in the adult industry. I think it'll help people understand that we're real people. I'm not just what's on that camera.
