Brooklyn Public Library Installs Porn Filters |
BROOKLYN, NY—Ho-Ho-No! As in, no porn for the down-and-out in Brooklyn this year. The New York borough's public library has decided to install filters on its public-accessible computers to keep people from looking at porn, reported the NY Daily News. City Councilman David Greenfield (D-Flatbush) explained, “People would sit there and watch really inappropriate videos in front of children and librarians. We got a lot of complaints.” The filter, which is supposed to block porn sites but will probably block sex education sites as well, costs between $25,000 and $30,000 annually, according to the library. That is not a paltry sum for a system the Daily News refers to as "cash-strapped." But the library apparently thought the expenditure was necessary, as did some of its patrons. “There’s a man here looking at porn every day,” complained Trinna Spottswood, 50, who patronizes the Brooklyn Heights branch. “They can do it home but shouldn’t be allowed to here.” Another patron, Vanna Billy, commented, “I don’t know why they allow [porn]. They say freedom of this and freedom of that.” Not to worry, Vanna. The libraries aren't falling for all that freedom chatter anymore.
