FSC Board Candidate Mo Reese Issues Statement

CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Performer, photographer and production manager Mo Reese is running for a seat on the board of the Free Speech Coalition. In order to better acquaint potential voters about his candidacy, he's issued the following statement, reprinted in full here.

"As some of you may know, I am running for one of nine open seats on the Free Speech Coalition’s Board of Directors. Here’s some more about the election, me, and the other thirteen candidates.

Since my candidacy was announced at the end of last month, I’ve noticed a couple things. First, many people are interested in this process but are unable to participate due to not being a FSC member. Second, many people are interested in who I am and why I’m taking part…Positive, negative, or undecided, I figured I would address a couple very general questions I’ve seen emerge.

First off, what exactly does the FSC Board of Directors do? Specifically, what do they do for individuals working in the industry?

The FSC unites the industry and acts as a strategic oppositional safeguard in the face of bigger issues, things that if left unattended would shutter the adult industry. Things that no one company or individual could handle on their own.

Completely unpaid and totally voluntary, the Board of Directors guides the FSC. Any big decision or declaration coming out of the organization? The Board met and decided on that. But why do we as individuals need this organization? Think about it – by protecting the industry and fighting bigger issues, the FSC defends our jobs and livelihoods. There are still a lot of people out there who either don’t like or would seek to regulate our industry – as individuals, we need the FSC to help deal with that.

Second, what exactly do I have to offer?

The Board is a collective entity that seeks to make the best decisions for the ENTIRE adult industry…but the entire industry is made up of many different types of companies and people, all with their own experiences and interests. Most of the people who work in this business come from the space I work – crew, production, on sets, and in offices. But currently, there is no one on the Board who comes from an “average guy” stance. That’s where I hope to come in. I want to bring some fresh blood to the board from a space where most of us work. Ideally, this will help inform their decisions in a more realistic way.

I also think I would provide a clearer connection point to my fellow “average guys” (and gals!) in the industry – if people knew the Board included someone more like them, they would be inclined to get involved and pay attention.

Lastly, what do I hope to accomplish?

Communication and clarity! For those of you who know me personally, you know I’m a talker…and a tweeter….but most importantly, I have no problem voicing my opinion & informing people about what I think is right. I want to find ways to open the channels of communication in more accessible ways, ways that will enable all members of our community to offer suggestions, provide feedback, and air grievances. As an industry, we need to put aside many of our issues with one another and focus on the good of the industry as a whole. Because none of us individuals are “in porn” if porn ceases to exist.

The adult industry is made up of so many different people, different cliques and groups that sometimes represent competing interests. But what we always have to remember is that we all have one common interest too – our investment in this industry.

For people who wonder what exactly it is that I am working to do, it’s bringing another major component of our collective interest to the FSC’s decision-making body. For people who choose to focus on the negative, or on what others “should have” done, maybe instead ask yourself what it is that you can do? I asked myself that question and am currently working on one of the options I came up with.

For those of you who are voting members of FSC, I humbly ask for your support. And for those of you who are not yet voting members, why not? Help support the organization that supports you!" To learn more about Mo, please visit TheAverageMo.com. Follow him on Twitter @MOXXX.
