ANE: The Place for New Companies to Debut

Canadian company Bodi Spa launched two new lines into the adult pleasure products market: Bodi Spa and Bodi Toyz. “The company has been around for about a year, but this is our first show in the adult area,” explained Zack Stevens, sales executive. “But we wanted to wait until we were ready to bring out the best products we could.” Those products include the Almighty, a wand-style vibrator that switches between hot and cold within a matter of seconds, and the 50 Shades of Play toy boxes, with items based on the best-selling trilogy. The Bodi Toyz line features many classic items, but in smaller, more compact forms and with more tasteful packaging than some other companies offer, Stevens said. “We didn’t want any hard adult images on the packaging, so we went with something that is tasteful yet sexy,” he said. Cheryl Greenspan and Christine DiMaria are the co-owners of C2 Cosmetics, the makers of Lusty Lacquers. The toxin-free nail polishes comes in a variety of colors with fun, flirty and sexy names such as Once You Go Black …, Halftime Head and Red Hot Poke-Her. Packaged in threesomes, the items are doing well in the women’s hometown of Chicago, but they are hoping to expand and help adult retailers realize there’s a place for the accessories on their shelves. “In the adult store we do currently stock, they are selling extremely well and they love the color names, since they are all sexy, flirty and a little slutty sometimes,” Greenspan said. Sisters Jen and Jodi created Southern Butter products with their mother, Kathy, to work together utilizing the talents they each possess and helping to heal and care for others. “All of the products are about pleasurable healing,” explained Jen, who is the herbalists and creates the formulas for the product range, which includes personal lubricants, lip moisturizers, lotions and more. Jodi explained the family had a company that created health and beauty products, but many customers asked if they could be used for intimate purposes. Lovely Toys was one of the most popular booths on the opening day of ANE, with crowds constantly forming to get a glimpse of the Luna Veneziana metal masks. The delicately designed masks come in a variety of sizes and styles. Daniele Droghetti explained the sensual masks are all handmade in Italy and use a special paint that stays flexible so the masks can be bent and formed to fit the wearer’s face. “There are several lines, such as the Basic Collection, which wholesales for about $12.50; the Elegant Collection; the Bridal Collection; the Glitter Collection; the Luxury Collection; and the Gold Collection, which is gold-plated,” Droghetti said. Many versions are also available with Swarovski crystals, which are individually placed by hand on the masks, he said.
