Hollywood Reporter, Rolling Stone Go Gaga For James Deen |
LOS ANGELES—The mainstream media's fascination with "it" boy James Deen continues as the adult star was featured in articles on both HollywoodReporter.com and RollingStone.com yesterday.First up was The Hollywood Reporter, which included a story on Deen in its Aug. 10 issue then published a truncated version of the story on its website, which called Deen the later-day John Holmes with "boy-next-door good looks." According to the Reporter, The Canyons director Paul Schrader had to be convinced by screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis that Deen was right for the role which was written for him. “He’s charismatic," Schrader said of Deen. "Why do people look at Tom Cruise and not someone who looks just like Tom Cruise? He has that special something.” Schrader is now said to be thrilled with the casting, the Hollywood trade paper reported. The director said that he put Deen through some remedial acting coaching because after performing in thousands of adult films Deen has "a lot of pool boys and pizza delivery men to overcome," in order to hone his acting chops. Next up was a video for Rolling Stone that finds Deen relaxing at home in Los Angeles where he talks about being cast opposite Lindsay Lohan, and waxes his disinterest in becoming a mainstream Hollywood star. Deen even admitted to turning down other mainstream opportunities.“There’s this whole misnomer that everybody in adult has this secret desire to start doing mainstream or to crossover,” Deen said. “There’s some people that do but the majority of people I know they would laugh in the face of mainstream. They chose to do adult and want to do adult. I am one of these people.” Deen went on to explain that Ellis' and Schrader's involvement in The Canyons piqued his interest enough to commit to the film.“[The Canyons] became this amazing thing that I was attached to which really baffles my mind on a daily basis that I’m even part of it," he said. "I feel very honored and I feel very privileged "At the same time this isn’t what I want to do with my life. This [porn] is what I want to do with my life. I’m doing what I want to do with my life. I have no desire to be mainstream.”Well, James, we're happy to have you.
