Girlfriends Films & Jelena Jensen Donate $1000 to Animal Society |
CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Girlfriends Films is donating $1,000 to Best Friends Animal Society on behalf of popular lesbian erotica performer Jelena Jensen. The monetary gift is the November selection for Girlfriend's Films monthly charity program. Past charity recipients have included Lambda Legal, NPR, Cancer Research Institute, and more. Jelena's choice, Best Friends Animal Society, is dedicated to ensuring a time when there are no longer homeless pets. "Anyone who knows me, knows what a huge animal lover I am," Jelena stated. "I'm also a huge proponent of spaying and neutering pets, as well as adopting pets rather than buying bred animals. I own two giant-breed rescue dogs, one of which is a special needs dog. His previous owners were told to put him down because 'no one would take a 150-pound dog with known health problems.' Thankfully, they sought out a rescue that would take him without putting him down. A week later, I fell in love with him and took him home, huge medical costs and all. He almost missed out on a very loving and fulfilling life, but was thankfully given a chance." "I love Best Friends Animal Society's No More Homeless Pets campaign where they spray and neuter animals, as well as set up foster and adoption programs around the country," she continued. "Their sanctuaries take in dogs, cats and other animals in need of special care, so one day they will be able to be adopted. They're giving animals the chance to lead happy, healthy, and loving lives." Best Friends Animal Society is guided by a simple philosophy: kindness to animals builds a better world for all. In the late 1980s, when Best Friends was in its early days, roughly 17 million dogs and cats were being killed in shelters every year. Despite the commitment of shelter workers to the animal in their care, the conventional belief was that little could be done to lower that terrible number. Best Friends' No More Homeless Pets campaign created a new vision: A grassroots effort to place dogs and cats who were considered "unadoptable" into good homes, and to reduce the number of unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs. Since then, the number of dogs and cats being destroyed in shelters has fallen to approximately 5 million a year. There has been much progress, but there is still much more to do. The work of Best Friends is supported entirely by the donations of its members. Through the generous hearts and hands of people like you, they can ensure animals who come into the care of Best Friends will never again be alone, hungry, sick, afraid, or in pain. "I've been shooting for them only a little over a year now, but they've proved themselves to be at the top of their game in many aspects. One of them is their commitment to helping others. They are in no way obligated to make monthly donations to charities, yet they do so because they choose to use their position to help. And I think it's very admirable they have chosen to ask their actresses to play a part in their charitable cause. I'm very happy to be a part of such a great company!" Girlfriends Films calls on its strong community of fans and followers to join Jelena in the prevention of homeless pets.
