Funding Drive for USB Vibe Successful |
SAN FRANCISCO—The design teamed Crave is creating a buzz among consumers for its Duet USB drive that doubles as a vibrator. And the first one isn’t even made yet. The Duet will come in three models, starting at $75. One style will only vibrate while the others will offer actual data storage, in 8GB or 16 GB. To finance the project, the team turned to a crowd-funding online platform and created a YouTube video to generate interest and funding. To date, the team has more than $40,000 in pledges to create the new product. "The initial drive behind making it a USB device was the ease of charging and ease of travel, but it became clearly fairly early on that we could add storage to it," Crave's Michael Topolovac told news.com.au. "A very common response was: 'Wow, this is cool, I can store my content on this!'" The Duet was launched on ckie.com on Aug. 17. With the funding in place, Crave say they expect to begin shipping the vibrators in early October. Ckie.com is similar to Kickstarter, and allows designers upload projects along with various funding options. Customers who contribute cash receive the product once it's been made.
