Pornhub.com Offers Vivid $5M for Kardashian Sex Tape Site |
LOS ANGELES—TMZ.com has posted up a letter from a marketing executive for monster tube site Pornhub.com sent to Vivid Entertainment co-chairmen Steven Hirsch, offering the company $5 million to buy kimksuperstar.com, a membership site that features the complete version of the infamous Kim Kardashian sex tape. In making the offer, Corey Price, VP of Marketing for the Manwin-owned property, took issue with the $30 million price tag Hirsch attached to the DVD of the tape last week after an unnamed source offered to buy up all rights to the video in order to take it off the market, saying Pornhub.com would have to "respectfully disagree" that the tape was worth that much money. "I don't have to tell you Mr. Hirsch that DVD's are a dying market, and there is only so much money to still be made with Video on Demand for hotel as well as online," Price wrote. The site, which reportedly got millions of hits the weekend of the reality TV star's wedding, retains enough value for Pornhub.com to make a public offer for it. Price said Pornhub had appraised "the full rights of Kimksuperstar.com to be somewhere between the $5-$10 Million dollar range and would gladly like to start with an offer of $5M." Price added that Pornhub.com averages over 12 million visitors a day, and that it already features "several different clips from your movie on our site. While the free clips we feature do get tons of eyeballs, the DVD is still, almost 5 yrs. old." Manwin replied to a request for comment, saying that—at least as of noon PST Sunday—it had not received a response to the offer. In related news, the Daily Mail reported Sunday that a lawyer for singer Ray J, Kardashian's ex-boyfriend partner in the video, has sent a letter to Steven Hirsch stating, in part, "Any attempts to transfer the copyright outside of these parameters will result in filing a motion with the courts to [seek] an injunction of any sale until Ray J's rights are protected." A request for comment from Vivid had not been received by post time. The letter from Pornhub.com to Vivid is reprinted below in its entirely, Dear Steven, After reviewing last week's headlines in regards to the attorney who came forward inquiring about the possible sale of the Kimksuperstar.com for an unknown third party, we'd also like to throw our hat into the "virtual arena." We read last week that you'd entertain offers somewhere around the $30 Million dollar range. While we don't discount for a minute the value of both Kim Kardashian and Ray-J's "brands," we have to respectfully disagree when it comes to the actual value of the DVD. I don't have to tell you Mr. Hirsch that DVD's are a dying market, and there is only so much money to still be made with Video on Demand for hotel as well as online. That is how we came to the appraisal of the full rights of Kimksuperstar.com to be somewhere between the $5-$10 Million dollar range and would gladly like to start with an offer of $5M. As you know, Pornhub.com is the largest adult site on the planet, averaging over 12 million visitors a day. Our site is 100% FREE, and we already feature several different clips from your movie on our site. While the free clips we feature do get tons of eyeballs, the DVD is still, almost 5 yrs, old. We recognize that both Ray J and Kim Kardashian are your partners on this property as well, and would like to start an open communication with all the parties at your earliest convenience. Best Regards, Corey Price VP Marketing Pornhub
