Bobby Gordon & Dad on Dr. Susan Block Show Saturday |
LOS ANGELES—Longtime AVN readers are undoubtedly familiar with Dr. Susan Block, the sex-positive activist with her own weekly internet TV show—and this Saturday, April 2, the doc's special guests will be Bobby Gordon, creator of the one-man show Debbie Does My Dad, and the dad himself, "the Ghost of Richard Pacheco." The younger Gordon will be performing his show on April 8 and 9 at the Highway Performance Space in Santa Monica. Also on board will be veteran adult actress Nina Hartley, who's appeared in more than two dozen movies with Pacheco, including Candida Royalle's Sensual Escape, Anthony Spinelli's Portrait of a Nymph and For Love and Lust, and John Seeman's Ten Little Maidens. Joining them all will be adult actress April Flores and director Carlos Batts, who'll be discussing "Artcore + more." The pair have been nominated for several awards for their work, including Feminist Porn Awards for Artcore and Sola, both directed by Bats and featuring Flores. For those who don't know, Dr. Suzy (as she likes to be called) does a live internet broadcast just about every Saturday night beginning at 10:30, which can be attended in person for a fee by members of her "Speakeasy," can be seen live on the internet by subscribers to her website, or can be listened to for free here. Attendees are also invited to her "erotic after-party" at Dr. Suzy's Speakeasy (which we're pretty sure in is the same performance space) for an open bar—according to a press release, this week's "Drink of Choice" is Agwa di Bolivia Coca Leaf Liqueur—and guests will also take home "goodie bags" including Pocket Rockets by Doc Johnson, condoms from Condomania and "other sexual delights." Dr. Suzy also collects donations to support the Block Bonobo Foundation, whose mission is to "save the highly endangered 'make love not war' bonobo chimpanzees from extinction in the Congo, and promote the Bonobo Way of peace through pleasure around the world." She also runs the Dr. Susan Block Institute, which is "an international center for sexual expression, therapy, research and education based in Los Angeles. Founded in 1991 by Susan M. Block, PhD, world-renowned Yale-educated sexologist, best-selling author and host of HBO specials, the Institute's mission is to help individuals, couples and communities to enhance their sexuality and improve their lives, based upon Dr. Block's philosophy of Ethical Hedonism and the Bonobo Way of Peace through Pleasure."
