Studio Happy Chicken Pink To Donate March Profits to Japan Relief |
LOS ANGELES—On the heels of the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami disaster that struck Japan, Japanese production company Studio Happy Chicken has announced that it will donate all profits from March to the Red Cross to aid relief and rescue efforts. “We’d like to announce that all profits we make from global sales of our releases for the month of March will be donated directly to the Japanese Red Cross,” said Charlie Maib, owner of Studio Happy Chicken, headquartered in Japan. “We are grateful that no one associated with our production company, Studio Happy Chicken Pink, was injured in the tragedy and every day our thoughts and prayers go out to those lost and struggling in the aftermath of this horrific day. “From a pop cultural perspective, Japan has given so much to the world,” added Maib. “Be it the films of Ozu and Kurosawa, to the music of Nobuo Umatsu and games of Shigeru Miyamoto, or even the modern day anime and manga that have become part of America's cultural lexicon. The time has come for us to pay back this great debt.” The studio announced that Thai Relax, one of the company’s strongest selling titles, starring Ayaka Uchiyama, will be released on Blue-ray March 22 in an uncensored version.. Streeting the same day will be Chaku Ero 3 and Samurai Boys. What did it feel like, when the massive earthquake struck? “I was outside at the time and the ground was like Jell-o,” said Maib, who, along with other members of his staff, has been donating his time and effort at the Yokota Air Base, which has become the main hub for international relief efforts.
